As we’re gearing up for the 2018 elections, remember that the window to file for office begins on November 8th!  RPK has heard great updates about County Parties helping recruit for local races, and we can’t stress how much we appreciate this and how important it is.  Not only do local races drive up turnout on Election Day during non-Presidential years, but they’re a great tool in voter registration! Also, beware that the date to register for the PVA and Circuit Court Clerk tests are coming up.  Be sure to let any prospective candidates know!

If your county has any ideas that are working well, or if you have pictures from an event or meeting, the RPK wants to know!  Please, call or email Clancy Hauber at (812) 987-1729 or clancy.rpk@gmail.com.  County Chairs are the main contact for RPK in each county, and we want that line of communication to be open and used often!

It’s another great month of positive voter registration growth for Republicans!  It’s exciting to see that number continue to rise every month.  Keep up the good work!  Below, we’ve put together a map to show the positive change by county across the Commonwealth from between January 2017 to September 2017.  The darker that your county is colored in, the higher positive percent change in voter registration you have!  Voter registration is an ongoing project and RPK is always looking for new ways and ideas to help!

The map and data shown below are collected from monthly Secretary of State Voter Registration updates.

This month County Chairs and Vice Chairs should have received the "Trump In" List.  This is the latest voter registration opportunity the RPK has put together.  The voters in this list were modeled as being supporters of President Trump in the 2016 cycle, but are registered as Democrat or Other.  County parties should use these lists to reach out and try to get these voters to switch Republican!  December 31st is the last day to change registration and still be eligible to vote in the Primary Election.

As an elected official, county party chair or vice chair or executive committee member, you may, from time-to-time, be contacted by the media.  Here are few cardinal rules of dealing with the media to keep in mind:
  1. You are under no obligation to give them a comment.  Only respond if you feel comfortable with the reporter, the questions and the topic.
  2. Written comments are always better. There’s no chance a reporter can misquote you if you give them a written response rather than a verbal one.  It also gives you the opportunity to get input from others to ensure you’re effectively communicating the party’s positions.
  3. Don’t lie. You only get one lie to a reporter; anything you say after that will be met with distrust.  “No comment” better than a lie. Also…
  4. “I don’t know” is an acceptable answer. You can’t know everything about everything.  It’s ok to tell a reporter you don’t know and ask if you can get back to them with an answer after you learn more.
  5. RPK is here to help you. If you are contacted for comment on a particular policy or political issue, never hesitate to call the RPK Communications team.  We are always here to provide you with talking points, background information and other tools to help you be an effective communicator for the party.
