A Message From
Kathleen Lisson, CLT

Hello! My name is Kathleen Lisson and I am a Certified Lymphedema Therapist and Editor of the Lipedema Treatment Guide Newsletter. I started this newsletter to provide ongoing resources for my lipedema clients.

We connected with one another because you are searching for answers about lipedema. Maybe you have just learned about lipedema, or maybe you’ve known about this adipose tissue disorder for years and are searching for more treatment options.

I hope you enjoy these resources. Please share this newsletter with others and encourage them to subscribe and visit the website at

Reviews of Lipedema Treatment Guide - the book!

The Lipedema Treatment Guide is published and available in paperback and ebook on Amazon!

Dr. Steven Dean from OSU called it “incredibly well-written and informative” and has added it to his lipedema patient handout.

Jacqui Beutel teaches Decongestive Lymphatic Therapy courses in Australia & New Zealand and gives copies of the Lipedema Treatment Guide to her students.

Lis from Georgia says, “I am using it as my "diary". There are several pages that have room for notes. I have highlighted things pertaining to me, and i have written notes, remarks, and some frustrations in it. I will bring it to EVERY future doctor appointment!”

Research Spotlight - Music Can Reduce Stress

Dr. David Lewis-Hodgson, a psychologist and founder of Mindlab International, has found that music can be engineered to positively affect our bodies and reduce stress.

One such song, Weightless by Marconi Union, can "help slow a listener's heart rate, reduce blood pressure and lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol" according to an Inc story titled 'Neuroscience Says Listening to This Song Reduces Anxiety by Up to 65 Percent' by Melanie Curtin.

I have listened to the song several times and it has a powerful effect on me. The article has a list of ten songs that may have a similar soothing effect.

I do not endorse or encourage the use of words "overweight" or "obese", because they are stigmatize people at the higher end of the weight spectrum. I believe that body sizes are naturally diverse, and that there isn't anything inherently wrong with having a larger body.

I may have used these words in prior materials before recognizing how harmful these words are to larger bodied people. I no longer use them as standalone terms. If I use them, I will clarify them by saying "overweight as defined by BMI."

There will be times when websites or research is shared that uses these words, and I want to be clear that I do not endorse the use of these terms.

In addition, I will use the term, "fat", as a neutral descriptor and not as a pejorative. I do this to normalize it as an adjective, such as, tall, short, or thin. I have adopted these beliefs from the fat acceptance movement which began in 1967.

I believe that the more we move towards fat acceptance the better understood fat tissue disorders will be understood and therefore, useful and effective treatment will be more available to people with lipedema.

I have added a new resource for people with lipedema to my collection at:

The new guide is titled: Shilo George’s Health and Wellness Philosophy template.

Personalize this guide written by trainer and consultant Shilo George and have it placed in your medical file before your next healthcare appointment.

I presented a poster on lipedema at the ASDAH 2018 Conference. Let me take you through it (it's also available in pdf if you want to get a better look)! View my video here:
