Call for choirs and presenters

11-18 July 2020 | Auckland, New Zealand

The world’s premier choral event, held once every three years in a distinctive and exciting destination, it draws together the world’s leading choirs, conductors, composers and administrators for a superlative experience of concerts, seminars, masterclasses and workshops. Providing an unparalleled opportunity for musicians to meet and share ideas, it is also a public showcase for the best our art form has to offer.

In 2020 the Symposium sails to the Pacific paradise of New Zealand, the home to a multicultural blend of Maori, Europeans, Pacific Islanders, Asians and many others… and to the dynamic mix of music they enjoy and share.

NEWS FROM OTHER CULTURAL NETWORKS

The role of culture at EU level in future

The European Union has proposed a new Agenda for Culture for the coming years.
We welcome the fact that a number of issues raised by the Culture sector during the consultation procedure where included in the document, including an explicit mention of arts education and the plan to create a new artists' mobility scheme.

Future EU funding programme for Culture

The EU has published a first proposal for the Multiannual Financial Framework for the years 2021 - 2027, including the new funding programmes.
We welcome the fact that this includes the continuation of Creative Europe as self-standing programme and the fact that the budget shall be increased (1.8 billion EUR compared to 1.4 billion for the years 2021 - 2027). However, this would still not be suffivcient to cover the needs (also see mid-term evaluation of Creative Europe below), also because the new artists' mobility scheme shall be included under Creative Europe, and there are plans to add a new strand for Music (see pilot programme Music Moves Europe). Therefore we will have to continue advocating for a budget increase, based on our original demand to double the budget for Culture and allocate 1% of all other funding instruments to culture.

You can help!
Please join Culture Action Europe's 1% for Culture campaign by signing their manifesto. If you live in an EU member state, you can also support our efforts by advocating at national level for an increase in the budget - using this template letter

CreativeEurope  2014-2021 mid-term evaluation

The programme, from which we are also receiving Network Funding as well as funding for the "Sing Outside the Box" programme in which we are partners, was evaluated over the last months, and we also contributed to the evaluation process in different ways. The evaluation showed that that the interest in the programme is very high in comparison to funds available, so that the success rate of applications accepted has declined. Also, the evaluation report recommends to do more for cultural diversity and competitiveness, strengthen the focus on audiences, embrace the digital revolution, and further support for linguistic diversity. In regards to supporting capacity-building needs of cultural organizations, there needs to be more attention to the ambitions of small cultural operators.

Good news for the British Culture Sector?

It seems that in the Brexit negotiations, the UK Government is planning to continue participating in the current EU programmes, including Creative Europe. This means that UK organisations can continue applying for funding under the current Creative Europe programme and successful applicants from the UK can receive the funding allocated until the end of their projects. However, the EU has included a UK specific clause in the event that the current negotiations will not be successful.

REMINDER: Music Moves Europe Call

Training Schemes for Young Music Professionals
The first call for proposal of the Music Moves Europe Preparatory Action was published on 8 May. The aim is to identify and support 10 pilot training programmes for young music professionals. Lessons learnt from these projects should feed into an integrated strategy for music support for the next generation of EU funding programmes after 2020.

Deadline for applications is August 27th 2018
