European Choral Association Newsletter

Dear choral lovers,
Here are the July news from the choir world.

In view of the recent acts of violence happening throughout Europe and the World, we are happy to report that the World Youth Choir is currently touring Germany, Switzerland and Belgium. The Singers, acting as ambassadors of intercultural dialogue and understanding, are fearlessly broadcasting the message of peace, giving hope to all of us, especially to those friends and members of ours who are suffering.

Please forward this newsletter to your singing friends, if you work in a choral association, forward it to your members or translate the news which you find essential into your own language.

With best wishes

Sonja Greiner, Secretary General

European Music Council

The EU to develop a possible funding scheme for the music sector

The Directorate General for EMCEducation and Culture of the European Commission launched a consultation process with stakeholders of the European music sector in the fall 2015 to identify key issues and challenges. Under the title AB Music Working Groups, the commission hosted meetings focusing on the following topics: i) Music and Data, ii) Empowering creators and nurturing creation: education, training, and professionalization, iii) Cultural diversity: mobility of artists and circulation of European repertoire, iv) Innovation & Creativity: how to best support music start-ups in a fast evolving context?

The EMC was invited to take part in these consultations, where it promoted the importance of cultural diversity and the values expressed in the five music rights. A report on the results of these working groups has been produced and can be accessed online. The European Commission also organised a conference at MIDEM (June 3rd to 6th) entitled Music Moves Europe to present the process and its outcomes. The EMC expects the Commission to soon present their proposals for a pilot project in support of the European music sector.
