Sing Me In - Collective Singing in the integration process of young migrants

“Sing Me In” starts!
Be part of the project!

ECA-EC has set up a cooperation project to create and spread efficient, usable tools to use collective singing as an integration tool.
The project gathers 11 musical organisations involved in youth work in 10 countries including Turkey and Lebanon. They will join forces and use their extensive networks to collect good practices related to the use of collective singing in the process of inclusion of young migrants in their respective professional and geographical areas.
The project will evaluate the existing experience to extract best practices, and use this basis to collectively develop innovative pedagogical contents. It will also gather examples of challenges encountered in projects aiming at the inclusion of young migrants, collecting “tips and tricks” and pitfalls to be avoided.
The main outputs of the project will thus be three practical handbooks targeting children and youth choir conductors and music teachers:
  1. Working with young refugees in their environment (refugee camp or accommodation)
  2. Including young people with migrant background in existing choirs
  3. Working in a school environment

They'll be available in 11 languages, and freely downloadable.

Another innovative tool will be a carefully curated collection of repertoire reflecting the migrant's cultural background to allow for musical exchange between the young singers, accompanied with video sources, sound files, transliterations and translations, pronunciation files to help conductors implement inclusion using relevant material.

How can I help the project?

The first step of the project is to evaluate the needs of the sector, and to start identifying and collecting examples of good practices.
It is an easy step, it will take you about 10 minutes to answer the first survey.
Answer the questionnaire here!

You can also follow the Facebook page of the association to be kept updated on the project!

What is "Sing Me In - Collective singing in the integration process of young migrants"?

"ROMANTIK a cappella"

European Choral Music of the 19th Century

The two-volume choir book ROMANTIK a cappella, edited by Michael Aschauer and Jan Schumacher, can be referred to as the new standard publication for a cappella songs for mixed voices from the 19th century. The novelty of this edition lies in the distinct concept of the European idea. Volume 1, Secular Masterworks, includes more than 125 secular choral pieces by more than 100 composers from more than 25 countries and reveals Europe’s impressive cultural diversity. The focus is on four-part songs and the technical demands extend roughly to the upper middle level of difficulty. Thus chamber choirs as well as amateur choirs will be able to find just the right pieces to suit their needs. Clearly and carefully edited for practical use from distinguished sources, all part songs include singable English lyrics in addition to the original lyrics, moreover also German lyrics and translations. For all non-English and German lyrics pronunciation guides were created as MP3 files for free download in which the original texts are read aloud by native speakers. Practice MP3 files for each individual part as well as exemplary complete recordings by renowned choirs and ensembles represent further practical rehearsal aids. Hereby the rich repertoire, a mix of well-known “highlights” and many new musical jewels waiting to be discovered, is made as accessible as possible.
