BECOME A LEADING VOICE OF TOMORROW - ABOUT LEADING VOICES 2022
Leading Voices, European Days for Vocal and Choral Leaders, Utrecht 27-31 july 2022 is a new European platform for everyone working and interested in the choral field to meet peers, learn from colleagues and get inspired by artistic concepts and choirs. The event is an initiative by the European Choral Association. Time to learn more!
FIVE DAYS A EUROPEAN PLATFORM FOR PROFESSIONALS
When designing Leading Voices, the main aim was to create an event that has a practical and forward looking approach focussing on co-creation and learning by doing.
Most professionals in the field of collective singing are not limited in their work to only one job. Whether you are a conductor or vocal leader, composers/arrangers, music educator or manager, you mostly find yourself in charge of different tasks. Therefore the event needed to offer sessions that touch different aspects like, managing, teaching, training, conducting and more.
FUTURE OF COLLECTIVE SINGING
The context for collective singing is ever changing. Not only because of the pandemic, but also because of many other reasons such as evolving demographics, digitalisation, climate change and increasing migration across the world. Many questions arise from these changes. Leading Voices will not answer all these questions but strives to inspire, enrich and strengthen the possibilities of collective singing, bringing choral professionals together from all over Europe and beyond and offer a platform to exchange, learn and connect.
FROM TEACHING POTENTIAL TO ARTISTIC SKILLS
Leading Voices is designed by a Music Commission of conductors, music teachers, composers and managers. The programme therefore meets the needs of all professionals in the choral sector.
The Music Commission members know by experience that as a choral professional you have to deal with both artistic and practical matters, with pedagogical issues and group dynamics or with arranging and finances. Leading Voices therefore defined five themes related to the different aspects of your job and selected session leaders to match these. Whether it’s in classrooms, whatever genre or level you work on – at Leading Voices you will find sessions to match your experience, ambitions and preferences.
LEARNING BY DOING & CO-CREATION
In Leading Voices you can find five different formats. In LEARN you will find workshops and lectures about different topics led by many different session leaders. In LET’S MEET you can join round tables and informal lounges. LIVE offers a total of 7 concerts by well known and inspiring ensembles that inspire in different ways. A LAB provides a space where participants and session leaders are given the opportunity to try out new things with a blank canvas as a starting point. LITERATURE will offer you new repertoire in presentations and a market with publishers.
WHAT´S NEXT
The European Choral Association is hoping to develop Leading Voices into one of its main activities. After this first edition, the organisers mostly hope that, after an inspiring day at Leading Voices, you will sit down on one of the beautiful terraces of Utrecht, have a drink with your new friends and renowned colleagues to discuss what you’ve learned and how this will influence your future work. And then you’ll know: you would not have wanted to miss this for the world!

A PROJECT OF TRAINING LEADING VOICES

Leading Voices is at the heart of the Training Leading Voices project.

Training Leading Voices is focused on the professionalisation of vocal and choral leaders in Europe and the internationalisation of their careers through events in France, Italy, Slovenia and the Netherlands from 2020 to 2022!

Training Leading Voices also seeks to inspire others to organise their own events for vocal and choral leaders - and we have awarded bursaries to organisations across Europe to do just this! Read on to find out more…
