EUROPA CANTAT 2021

It's finally here!

Looking for a weekend getaway, or July holidays abroad? (COVID-19 permitting, of course)

Join us in Ljubljana, the lovely capital of Slovenia which just a week ago took over the presidency of the Council of the EU! The international choral family looks forward to finally kick-off this year's EUROPA CANTAT on 17 July!

EUROPA CANTAT - TV

You won't make it to Lujbljana? Worry no more, we've got your back!
Follow all the action from Ljubljana, from 17 to 22 July, on EC-TV!

EC-TV will bring you a reading session and open singing, a discovery atelier and three pulse sessions each day, all free of charge! While many will not be able to be in Ljubljana physically this summer, this is not a reason to miss out on the great content we have curated for you!

EUROPA CANTAT Songbook

A must-have for every true EUROPA CANTATian!

Oh those sweet memories of the festivals you've been to, when looking at your bookshelf! One songbook for each festival, countless open singings and the good times spent with friends old and new.

Time to get your hands on this year's edition! We have teamed up with our friends at Éditions À Cœur Joie to bring you the official EUROPA CANTAT 2021 Songbook. Open Singing will be streamed daily at 10.15 AM on EC-TV (see above), and you surely want your own copy to sing from.
NB: Peeking in your neighbour's scores unfortunately not possible this year!

ECA Membership Weekend & General Assembly 2021

Lyon (FR) | 19 - 21 November 2021

It is our pleasure to invite ECA members and friends to our annual Membership Weekend and General Assembly to beautiful Lyon!

After an all-online meeting last November, we are very eager to go back to physical meetings and are preparing an exciting schedule for this year! The membership weekend will feature our General Assembly, the membership day with various workshops and sessions, the presentation of the EPIC data collection, and much more!

Official invitations will be in ECA members' inboxes later this month!

We would like to thank ECA founding members À Cœur Joie France for hosting this years Membership Weekend in Lyon, the City of Lights, capital of French cusinie, and home to ACJ's offices and many great choirs.

Leading Voices

European Days for Vocal  & Choral Leaders

27 - 31 July 2022

You’ll need your agendas for this! Leading Voices, the major event for conductors and vocal leaders just launched their new website.

Leading Voices presents a five-day programme for choral professionals with over 70 sessions that explore the future of collective singing from a social and artistic perspective, and includes all genres and skill levels. It offers a dynamic platform for conductors, vocal leaders, music teachers, managers, artistic leaders and composers from all over Europe.
Leading Voices inspires you to actively explore, experience, and discuss the expansion and future of choral music, and become one of the leading voices of tomorrow.

The event is organised by ZIMIHC podium voor amateurkunst and the European Choral Association, in the frame of the Training Leading Voices project, co-funded by the Creative Programme of the European Union. Further partners are À Cœur Joie France and JSKD - the Republic of Slovenia Public Fund for Cultural Activities.

SHIFT Inclusion Bibliography

Out this Month!

We are proud to announce that the SHIFT project’s first resource on inclusion will be published in July! Taking the form of annotated bibliography, it outlines 101 resources that serve as useful references for cultural organisations looking to make their operations more inclusive.
It will be officially launched at the SHIFT conference taking place at the Europa Cantat festival. This resource was developed by the European Choral Association as leaders on the inclusion topic within the SHIFT project.

International Congress for Choral Conductors

Puteaux (FR) | 10 - 12 September 2021

Activity in partnership with the European Choral Association

Conductors and vocal leaders, here's an opportunity for you to be spending a long weekend in September in Puteaux, France, to discover new ideas, techniques and repertoire, as well as to meet fellow conductors and widen your network!

Working language will be French.

This event is organised by A Cœur Joie France and is part of the Training Leading Voices project, cordinated by ZIMIHC and co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
 

International Choral Conducting Summer School

Limerick (IE) | 8 - 14 August 2021

Activity from the network, promoted by the European Choral Association

Sing Ireland presents its 41st International Choral Conducting Summer School for conductors, teachers, music students, choral singers and musicians.
The only one of its kind in Ireland, this seven-day intensive course under the artistic direction of Orla Flanagan offers excellent conducting tuition at a range of levels, tutor-led warm-up sessions and whole group singing, exposure to new repertoire, conducting in final-day concert (optional) and one-to-one lessons by private arrangement.

Hannover (DE) | 23 - 26 September 2021

Activity from the network, promoted by the European Choral Association
From 23 - 26 September 2021, the choral world will meet in Hannover, Germany once again.

chor.com 2021’s exciting programme includes more than 200 workshops for choral directors, choral managers, and others, top-class concerts, a trade fair, and a platform for exchange between all types of professionals and amateurs in the choral world.

Results: FOSCO CORTI Conducting Competition

Last moth's first edition of the Fosco Corti International Competition for Choral Conductors saw 18 candidates from all over the world competing with each other over the course of six stages.

The first prize went to Korean conductor Hyunju Kwon, who convinced with her solid preparation, rehearsal management and choral sound construction skills. She also convinced the audience who chose her special prize.

Second came Finland’s Elisa Huovinen who also won the ECA special prize, which includes an engagement in an international choral event.

The third place remained in Italy, going to Mateja Černic of Trieste, who also claimed the award for being the best Italian participant in the competition by score.

Fellow Italian Federico Viola won the 'Grazia Abbà' prize for the youngest conductor admitted to the final round.

Congratulations to all!
FOSCO CORTI International Competition for Choral Conductors was organised in the frame of the Training Leading Voices project by FENIARCO, the national federation of Italian choirs, the Conservatorio di Torino 'Giuseppe Verdi', and Association Cori Piemontesi, in partnership with the European Choral Association.

Creative Europe
Creative Europe Calls Published

The EU has allocated 60 mio. Euros to cooperation projects under the new Creative Europe programme. The focus is on European artistic cooperation and innovation on topics such as audience engagement, social cohesion, digitisation, contribution to the European Green Deal and sector-specific challenges in the book, music, architecture and culture heritage sectors.


Applicants can choose between small (3 partners from 3 eligible countries, up to 200.00 Euros, max. 80% co-funding), medium (5 partners from 5 eligible countries, up to 1 mio. Euros, max. 70% co-funding) or large scale projects (10 partners from 10 eligible countries, up to 2 mio. Euros, max. 60% co-funding) depending on the size of their consortium.


Deadline: 7 September 2021
