Ruben

Ruben Smits (Netherlands)

Member of the ECA-EC Youth Committee.

When / where did you first come in contact with choral music?

"When I was 11 years old, I first participated in a regional Night of the Proms, where I also sang my first solo. That was very exciting for me! Afterwards I joined a youth choir in the city where I lived, and things progressed from there."

Noël Minet Fund offers grants for young choral enthusiasts

Thanks to the Noël Minet Fund Sponsorship Kuo-Jen had the chance to attend the Lithuanian Choral Music Study Tour in Moletai, Vilnius and Kaunas, an event for choral conductors and composers.
Juo-Jen
"The tradition of multipart singing from Lithuania has opened my eyes to how singing can bring people together. In the workshop, every body made a circle and sang an easy melody in canon. Though I didn’t understand the text, in this moment I felt we all are the same, we are family. This great feeling lead me to want to learn more about this kind of songs."

>> Kuo-Jen at the Lithuanian Study Tour
What is the Noël Minet Fund?
The fund offers grants for conductors and composers under 30 with limited economic resources applying for a training activity for young conductors or composers under the label of ECA-EC and for applicants to the EuroChoir.
