Marie Greene a.k.a. Olive Knits
Thursday, April 11, 2019
Fremont United Methodist Church
2620 NE Fremont Street

Bus lines that'll help get you there: 17, 8, 77, 75.

*Doors open at 6 for social knitting and
Marie Greene book sale and trunk show.

Program: Marie Greene (Olive Knits) will present "You Are the Boss of Your Sweater." If sweater knitting stresses you out, or if you struggle to get the results you expect, Marie's insightful (and fun!) approach to sweater knitting will leave you inspired and ready to tackle your next project.

Book sales: Due to popular demand, Marie Greene will only have a few copies of her new book, Seamless Knit Sweaters in 2 Weeks, on hand for sale.

She has graciously offered to take orders for her book and personally mail (without charge!) signed copies within a week or so after the meeting. Thank you, Marie!

About Marie Greene:
In 2018 Marie shared her passion for the maker community through her TEDx talk, "Think Like a Maker". Her first book, is out now. Her second book, Knit Shawls & Wraps in 1 Week, will be released October 29th of this year.

Please note: we're doing things a little differently at this meeting because we expect a packed house.

We'll meet at 6:00 in our regular space in the church basement. There, Marie Greene will take orders of her new book.

We will then move to the church sanctuary upstairs where our program will take place.

Program begins at 7 in the church sanctuary.

If you like to snack during the meetings or you bring your dinner to the guild meetings, please finish it up before we move up to the sanctuary. No food or drink is allowed in the sanctuary.
Wear Your Olive Knits FOs
Have you knit the Bentley Cardigan, the Breakfast Club Beanie, Brookings Crew, or another Marie Green design? Be sure to wear it to show our guest an extra Puddletown welcome. We may even try to get a group photo!
Show & Tell
We'll finish up the evening with Show & Tell. Bring your recent finished objects - the glorious and the epic fails.

Be sure to bring your Olive Knits FOs!
Guild Happenings
Rose Haven Blanket Project

We're collaborating with Rose Haven to provide handmade blankets to their guests.

How do we make and donate 20 blankets by October?

1. Choose a size: lap blankets and child-size preferred
2. Choose yarn: Machine washable and acrylic preferred
3. Chose a craft: Knitting? Crochet? Something else?
4. Find some friends: Knit or crochet strips and seam them together at a party.
5. Bring in your finished blanket, show it off, inspire others!

Catch Up

If you missed the March meeting, *tear* *sad face*. It was a lot of fun! Emme and Samantha, hosts of the podcast Stitch & Stir, recorded a live episode. We played a game of Gimme Gimme with handmade prizes and we shared our knitting confessions. Kim (below) played bartender with mai tai mocktails with tips going to Rose Haven.

Watch the episode here.
Knit Nights:
Inclusion & Diversity

Monday, April 8, we host our next Knit Night to speak about better inclusion in our knitting community. It's a brave space to help each other and learn. It's an opportunity to grow. It's a chance to connect.

The focus this month will be on outreach in the Portland area. What organizations can we provide our time and resources to? As always, we'll discuss books, videos, podcasts, etc that helped change or develop your perspective on race and culture outside your own.

We meet the second Monday of every month. All are welcome!

Our next Knit Night is:
Monday, April 8, 6:30 PM

Fremont United Methodist Church, Bob Nelson Room
2620 NE Fremont St, Portland
WE *heart* OUR MEMBERS

We're hoping to give more of you kudos on our blog and social profiles because you are awesome!

Member Spotlights include pics of some of your favorite projects, your fiber arts discoveries, and what you love about knitting. If you want to be featured, let us know via email or at our meetings. You can also do our little "interview" any time. Just answer 5 or 6 questions of your choosing and email us back.

We also love hearing your great knitting-related tips! You don't have to be a Master Knitter, teacher, designer, or expert to share a helpful hint, learning, or tip at our meetings.

Let us know if you want to share a tip.
