Dear Fellow Educators:
HAPPY SUMMER!
I hope this message finds you taking advantage of the weather and the free time to take part in the three "R's" of an educator's summer.
1.  Relax!
William S. Burroughs wrote, "Your mind will answer most questions if you learn to relax and wait for the answer."  I couldn't agree more and as educators who are constantly creating and absorbing the needs and lives of our students, relaxation is the essential medicine of the mind.  Language educators have the unique bonus that what we do is what we love and summer should help us remember why we teach language...we simply love language, culture, travel, and people.  Take it all in!!

2.  Reflect!
What happened this year?  in your classroom?  your school?  your community?  your own personal and professional growth?  Taking the time to think about the many experiences you have had this year is not only healthy, it is a necessary part of our profession and it truly can make a difference in each step we take forward. As you reflect, remember to think of how you can honor a colleague or nominate yourself for one of FLENJ's great awards or grants!  You deserve it! Here is some light beach reading:  Teaching Strategies:  Value Self-Reflection

3. REFRESH!

We want you to feel ready to grow and engage your learners in the fall, so FLENJ is working this summer to prepare a wonderful day of learning, collaborating, and networking.  On August 10th, FLENJ will host our 3rd annual Summer Refresher on the campus of Montclair State University.  Schedule and session descriptions are now available online.  FLENJ opens this event to members and non-members at low rates to help everyone get a jump on professional development for the year.  Register today to join us for this excellent summer event!

Wishing you all a relaxing summer full of reflection and refreshing experiences!
Sincerely,
Amanda Seewald
FLENJ President
