It’s a commitment we’re backing up with action - and with the continued support of our members and the wider industry, we are working to raise the bar.
 
As we all have experienced, economic fluctuations, world events, and political agendas - not to mention the shifts in consumer behaviors related to travel – can have both positive and negative impacts on travel and tourism. Continuing to attract international visitors to our great country requires a collaborative and innovative effort to overcome challenges that may have an impact on travelers and our businesses.
 
That’s where IITA can make a difference.
 
With more than 25 years under our belt, IITA has weathered the ups and downs of this dynamic industry. And, as you know, we introduced our new brand last year with overwhelming membership support and the steadfast determination of bringing together the organizations and resources necessary to deliver the best of the U.S. to the world.
 
When we work together, we’re stronger…more effective. When we share our ideas and experiences, we find solutions. When we bring all voices together, we are heard.
 
That’s what this year’s Summit is all about – Celebrating the Diversity of Travel. We’re exploring new markets, identifying evolving business models and practices, and embracing the many segments of the inbound travel industry. It's a New Administration. What Have You Heard? What Do You Think?
 
We are just a couple of days away from the Inauguration of President Donald J. Trump, a member of the hospitality industry and an outspoken advocate for changes in matters affecting the presence of international visitors to the United States.
 
In the campaign, the post-election transition period, and now in the days running up to the Inauguration with the accompanying hearings on Cabinet nominations, there have been many comments relating to our relationships with other countries.
 
Some of these comments include building a wall on the Mexican border, toughening some entry requirements, changing the relationship with China vis-a-vis Taiwan, imposing trade tariffs on countries including Canada, and even dropping out of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).  With these kinds of policy discussions swirling around, the question of how America's welcome mat will be perceived moving forward is crucial.
 
This conversation is one which will obviously be of major importance to inbound operators and their clients abroad.
 
With the IITA Summit just less than three weeks away, it is suggested that our members prepare themselves to participate in a dialogue on this matter and others which will be important in the early days of the Trump Administration.

Are you getting your share of the lucrative LGBT Market?

The global LGBT market generates more than $200 billion in tourism spend annually. The US is the number one country destination for LGBT travelers worldwide and New York City is the top city destination for the market.

Studies show that giving LGBT people full equality is not only a social issue, it can have substantial economic benefits as well. Here is a recent article about the impact of travel bans. About 1.3 million additional LGBT visitors are expected to choose to vacation in the U.S. over the coming three years as a direct result of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2015 same-sex marriage ruling, and these tourists will spend at least $4.25 billion during that period.

In collaboration with the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA), we take a look at this sizable market and the impact that Religious Freedom laws and other government regulations may have on LGBT travel. Don’t miss this informative session at Summit!

On the Move - Jennifer Lloyd as SAE Tour & Travel, Wholesale

IITA is pleased to announce that Board Member and Events Committee Co-Chiar, Jennnifer Lloyd has accepted the position of SAE Tour & Travel, Wholesale for the Southeast Area Sales Team with Marriott International.

Jennifer has had incredible career with Starwood over the last 10 years. She most recently held the position of Leisure Account Director for Starwood’s Global Sales team handling accounts in the wholesale, FIT, receptive tour operators and MICE business both group and transient. Prior to this role she was the Leisure Account Director for the Metro Market in Boston representing five of city center properties, and earlier she was at The Boston Park Plaza Hotel and handled a variety of sales segments.

Jennifer brings a wealth of industry experience to this role and has an exceptional track record of finding new business, driving sales and growing market share as well building rock solid relationships with clients and colleagues.

Jennifer will begin her new role on January 23rd.
