Greetings!

Happy 2018! I hope you all had time over the holidays to relax and enjoy time with family and friends, and are now gearing up for a productive new year. We’re busy with finalizing Summit planning as it’s just around the corner – February 4-7 in Portland.

Appointment scheduling is open and will close January 24 at which time we will run your appointment schedules and open the system back up for manual appointments. The manual appointment time will allow you to fill open appointments and the message system is a great way to touch base with your IITA colleagues and partners before and during the conference.

We have a lot to talk about at the Summit – National Parks issues that we’ve been working diligently, the convergence of B2B and B2C business practices, the latest in air travel and the MICE market – and so much more. This is truly where we, as inbound travel professionals, get information on best practices and the latest trends.

During the Annual Business Meeting, we’ll talk about what IITA is working on in the coming year – we have some exciting programs that will enhance your membership investment. One such project is our new annual publication, “IITA’s Inbound Insider Magazine,” which will include a member directory and be published in time for distribution at IPW. We understand that there were a few questions about whether or not it was connected to NAJ’s Inbound Report, so I wanted to clarify that it is not. We respect our colleagues at NAJ and value the breadth of topics covered in the weekly newsletter, and we want to be sure there’s no confusion between it and our annual magazine. More about the publication and other programs to come at the Summit.

We hope to see you there! It’s not too late to register!

New Year Brings New Energy and New Focus on Inbound Issues

By: Stephen B. Richer, DC Correspondent

Issues of interest to inbound operators are seeing significant activity, as the Trump Administration moves to modify past practices and long-established procedures.

Some of the most important activities and issues of interest to those in the international travel sector are as follows:

New national park fees and prospective funding for long-term infrastructure needs.  The revision in national park fees (up to 300% higher) at highly attended sites in peak season, proposed use of receipts against the $12 billion backlog, and a system that could make it challenging to schedule visits and delay the ability to confirm groups, have all generated over 100,000 filed comments regarding increased fees for individuals and more than 4,000 regarding the proposed tour operator requirements, according to the NPS Tourism Manager Donald Leadbetter.
