Volunteer Week is April 16th - 22nd!
Every single day, we are so grateful for our wonderful volunteers who help us make our mission possible. But every year during National Volunteer Week, we like to do some special things for those of you who have shared your most precious of assets with us and our community, your time. We also like to take this opportunity to recognize specific individuals and groups who've gone above and beyond to inspire others to take action for their community through radical acts of generosity! We'll be announcing our plans soon on our social media channels! If you don't already, please follow Rise on Facebook @risenj and on Instagram @njrise and celebrate with us!

Rise Wins Grant to for Youth Council's "Rain Garden" at Home Office
Rise was recently chosen as the recipient of a very exciting Gro More Good Grassroots Grant from Kids Gardening and Scotts Miracle Gro Company! With the award, the Rise Youth Council (in conjunction with The Watershed Institute) will plant a "rain garden" outside the Rise Home Office. The rain garden, comprised of a variety of native plants, will collect and treat an estimated 870 gallons of stormwater runoff, a leading cause of erosion, the degradation of habitats, and the number one cause of decreased water quality in New Jersey.

The summer is soon approaching and Rise is gearing up for our Summer Academic Enrichment Program. The Rise Summer Camp offers parents the opportunity to get their children involved in summer academic enrichment while enjoying recreational activities and beach trips. This six week program begins July 3rd and runs through August 11th at the Ethel McKnight Elementary School. Rise Summer Camp offers students the opportunity to develop their math, reading, science, art, and language arts skills and strengthen their social skills. Special visitors such as firefighters, local dignitaries, and other experiential learning activities are scheduled for the afternoons and field trips are planned on Fridays! By the end of the day, our campers have had two free nutritious meals and a full day of learning and fun. For more information and to register your child/children, click here.

Recipe of the Month is Back for April!
On Monday, April 24th, during our regular distribution hours, volunteers will once again be preparing April's "Recipe of the Month" at the pantry and handing out samples for clients to try! Get ready for those summer pot luck festivities and make-ahead weekday dinners with this month's recipe... chili! The Recipe of the Month will be available as a meal kit that includes the ingredients needed to make the recipe, a recipe card, and nutritional information. Pantry clients can take one of these kits with them as a supplement to their regular distribution. Families Understanding Nutrition (or F.U.N.) is a program of the Rise Pantry that helps families understand the impact of proper nutrition and how to create healthful meals with ingredients from our Rise Pantry!

March Community Impact by the Numbers
Every day, our mission is to help our neighbors in whatever way we can. In January, we had 1,648 visits to the food pantry by 514 local families. We distributed 16,480 bags of food to local families and handed out 117 bags of pet food. 369 bags of personal care supplies were given to those in need, as well as 566 bags of baby supplies to new parents in low-income families. 252 of our Rise volunteers donated 2,231 hours of their time. Our efforts are made possible by donations that we receive and by our amazing volunteers. We want you to know that you are making a huge difference in the lives of people around you who may be struggling and lifting up your entire community. If you want to help us make these numbers grow, you can donate to Rise at https://njrise.org/donate. Want to make even more of an impact? Become a Rise Good Neighbor and pledge to make a recurring monthly contribution that helps us better manage our budget and know that we are ready to take action when needs arise outside of our normal fundraising schedule, which has become our reality in recent years.
