GBD Board of Directors Election March 8-28
The 2017 Board elections are underway. The elected GBD Board determines planning and spending strategy for the organization, oversees maintenance and upgrades to district green spaces and engages with district constituents. In this year’s election, fourteen candidates are running for 7 open seats. Voting is open to district property owners whose assessments fund the work of the organization. Ballots will arrive by mail over the next week. You can find out about the candidates and learn more about the election process, and let us know of any issues or problems, at GreenBenefit.org/election
Should we add stop signs on 22nd Street?
Public Works is finalizing plans for greening and safety upgrades to 22nd Street between Illinois and Pennsylvania that will include bulbouts and enhanced crosswalks at intersections, pedestrian lighting, sidewalk gardens and additional street trees. Should four-way stops also be added at the Minnesota and Tennessee intersections along 22nd? Share your thoughts with us by taking the short survey at GreenBenefit.org/survey. The GBD website also contains information on how to contact the MTA and weigh in on this matter.
Street upgrade planning for Minnesota south
The GBD has been working with Public Works, the Planning Department, nearby property and business owners and residents to provide some of the basic infrastructure missing along Minnesota between 23rd and 25th – sidewalks, crosswalks, lighting – in preparation for eventual upgrades to, and we hope, expansion of Minnesota Grove. We are setting up meetings with stakeholders to review options for sidewalks and parking. If you would like to be notified of meetings and outreach specific to this project, please contact us at info@GreenBenefit.org with “Minnesota South” in the subject line and we’ll add you to the notification list.
Progress Park Planting Day
Our landscape contractors, Frank & Grossman, kindly passed on to the GBD some surplus agave and Black Mondo grass plants. Progress Park steward Bruce Huie, Tunnel Top Park steward Bonnie Bergeron, Toes and Paws founder Irma Lewis and neighbors got together this month to place the windfall in the area alongside the 280 onramp on Indiana. Thanks F&G!
Angel Alley Workday
What can bring the Hell’s Angels, Muni workers, Public Works crews and Dogpatch neighbors together for a common cause? Angel Alley stewards Sari Stenfors and Kristin Swanson had a full crew out for an Angel Alley workday this month. The robust crew pruned vines, trimmed palms, weeded and did some upgrades to the solar lighting. The transformation of the Alley is a great Dogpatch success story and we are grateful to Sari and Kristin and all the neighbors and friends who help keep Angel looking great. Look for GBD landscape and maintenance contractors there as well, doing our part to keep it looking good.
