Exciting News

I just completed my training to become a certified color strategist, and am now the first and only one in Alaska!

Do you freak out out over selecting paint colors? Feel confused on how to tie colors together in your house so it all works? Wondering what colors can help you sell your house fast and for more? I can help!  And while I am already a certifited color expert through Home Staging Resources, I was super impressed with the training through Camp Chroma. Finally, a training program that uses the scientific method of measuring and explaining how color works based on a historical color system that skips all the subjective talk about undertones that leaves everyone confused.

Color is complex and this system explains color data so we can make informed decisions based on spectral data, rather than subjective opinion or color sense.  I am confident that I can bring you a whole new level of expertise to help you select great colors for your home!

Mary Ann Benoit- President of Northern Lights Home Staging and Design
I was interviewed on Seward Public Radio’s “Market Minute” recently with Nicole Lawrence.and shared tips on how if you spend a little, you can make a lot on your home sale with home staging.

We discussed how home staging can be used as a marketing tool for your home sale, some of my home staging projects, the cost of home staging, why it works even in a seller’s market, and how a seller can make more on their sales price with staging.  Read more and hear the interview.

Things NOT to do when home staging.

Home Staging Tip of the Month

Avoid doing anything that looks like the picture above! Sometimes Realtors or home sellers in an effort to save money on professional home staging will put a few objects in a a room to give buyers "a sense of scale". This looks ridiculous, is distracting to buyers and does not make an emotional connection with buyers so they make an offer. Actually, it does the opposite. Buyers are so disctracted by weird scenes like this they stop focusing on the great features of the house. Better to leave it vacant than do silly staging tricks like this.
Great Interior Design starts with a plan. A professional designer can help you get off on the right foot with a plan you can implement over time that works with your budget.

Interior Design Tip of the Month

You are much more likely to get the end result you want if you start with a plan. Many people just start buying things they like, hoping that it will all work together in the end. This usually does not work. A designer can help you come up with a great and affordable plan. It starts with understanding your own style, what you want and how your design will enhance how you live in your space.
