A Personal Note from Dan Andrews

Taking yourself too seriously is overrated, right? We tend to put so much pressure on ourselves to act the right way, follow societal norms, and to maintain an image.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and families have a tendency to poke fun. Well, mine certainly does.

Here's a friendly reminder: when you find yourself being teased by someone who loves you, feel a sense of gratitude and understand that this person is teasing you because

A) They feel comfortable with you and aren't nervous about destroying their social status by being real with you and

B) These people know you and have something to teach you about yourself which others may be hesitant to bring to your attention.

I will do my best to remember these nudges at Thanksgiving with my own family. And some of them read these newsletters so I just gave them permission to gather their ammunition. Uh oh...

Yet, it's great to not take myself so seriously with my families and friends. As you spend time with your people, let your shoulders down and appreciate those people who extend unconditional love.

And make sure you're extending that unconditional love in return by poking fun with a smile.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Also, in the spirit of not taking myself too seriously, you can watch me embarrass myself in a recent video where you can see me in four different Halloween costumes explaining eerie financial tips. Hope you don't get too scared!

Financial Quote of the Month

"What you earn is sometimes just a factor of what your industry or company is willing to pay you. It doesn't mean you work harder or have a more meaningful job. It doesn't imply you're smarter or better at negotiating a salary. It doesn't convey that you went to a better school or are more 'ambitious' or have stronger skills. It is what it is. A neurosurgeon will always make more than a kindergarten teacher, but both bear equal weight in so many more important categories than money."
