Moving Forward in February
January has come and gone quickly, and here at the DDA we would like to thank you all for starting out the year strong. As we welcome Feburary, we would like to remind you that we are here to help you succeed and we have many opportunities available to help you out in ways you might not realize. Lapeer Rewards Has Begun!
February 1st marked the beginning of the Lapeer Rewards Program and here is a special thanks to all of you businesses that are participating in this amazing program. We hope that this program brings you increased business and helps the people of Lapeer find out what you all have to offer them.
To recap on the rules of this program: if you are participating, you should have received a package that contained 40 rewards cards, a stamp unique to your business, and a table top pop-up that briefly explained the rewards program. You can hand out these rewards cards to customers, when a customer spends $5.00 or more at your business, you can then use the stamp you were given to stamp one spot on the customers rewards card. Remember- a customer can only have one stamp from your business on their card- they must have 12 DIFFERENT stamps to qualify for the $25.00 gift card. We encourage you to share on your social media pages about this program, the better turnout we get for this program means the more money spent at local businesses. This program will be going from now until May 30th, 
If you did not receive your supplies for this program, or changed your mind and would now like to participate, please contact us at the DDA so we can get you set up to participate. 
One opportunity that we would like to remind you of is the electronic sign on M-24 that can be used to promote your downtown business! M-24 brings many cars through Lapeer on the daily, which makes it the perfect spot to market what your business can offer people driving through. If you'd like to market your business on this sign, please contact your friends at the DDA about what you're looking to put on the sign and we will be happy to help you utilize this great promotional tool. 
Paczki Fest Fundraiser
You all have recieved an email from Jim regarding The Refuge's fundraising event that they would like to hold on Fat Tuesday, March 5th, from 11:00am to 5:00pm. In case you missed the email, we wanted to put the information in this months newsletter to help spread the word.
We would like to invite you to participate in a retail based fundraiser being put together by The Refuge.  For those of you that are not familiar with the work of The Refuge, The Refuge is a temporary emergency housing program. It is designed to assist homeless individuals and families that reside in Lapeer County and who are ready, willing and able to transition out of homelessness. They’re able to provide these services with the support of the community by partnering with Church’s, businesses, volunteers, etc. These services also cost money and so they have approached the DDA about a  fundraising idea that would help raise funds for The Refuge but also drive traffic to your businesses and generate sales as well.
The event would take place on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 from 11:00am to 5:00pm.  Fat Tuesday and would use the tag line: Eat, Buy, Give.
Here’s what they’re looking for from you:
  1. Are you interested in participating?
  2. How would you like to give back? – This is a fundraiser for The Refuge so think about ways that would benefit you AND them. A few ideas could be:
    1. A % of each sale is donated
    2. Donate an amount based on the number of patrons. I.E. X amount of dollars for each customer
    3. Perhaps a featured item with proceeds going to the Refuge
    4. Maybe it’s just putting out a fishbowl and taking up a collection that can be donated
    5. Get creative with it and come up with a way that will benefit you as a business and allows you to give to The Refuge as well.
The Refuge is looking at a variety of activities to enhance the event as well, including music, paczki related activities, bead necklaces, etc.
Because the event would support our downtown businesses the DDA will help to promote this event through our website and social media platforms. 
The event will also be promoted through flyers distributed around the community and press releases.
If you'd like to participate, or if you have any other questions regarding the fundraiser, simply email us at the DDA telling us so and we will help you move forward from there.

We had a successful first business owner meet and greet. After this first meeting, we are confident that this will be a useful tool for all of us in downtown to discuss issues, come up with ideas, and learn more about how you can be a bigger part of this community. We encourage those of you that came to the first meeting to come again, and for those of you who were unable to come to the first to come to this months meeting.
