The "Hart" of Lapeer County
Here's some fun information to close out this first edition of the Downtown newsletter. The very first settler in Lapeer was Alvin Hart. Alvin and his family settled in Lapeer in November of 1831. During his first trip to the area Alvin and a group of men that were with him camped under an elm tree along Farmers Creek where it merges with the Flint River. Though the elm tree died back in 1925 the spot is now hosts a historical marker.
