O God, because without you we are not able to please you, mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

(btw, if you click the link above, you can preview this Sunday's readings!)

"The Rebuking or Calling of Saint Peter" by an anonymous painter in the Flemish School (c. 1600) shows the famous scene from Mark 8 & Matthew 16 in which Peter makes his profound confession of Christ's deity, and then just as quickly rebukes Jesus, who has just foretold his imminent suffering. Jesus then draws a contrast between Peter's easy way out, on the one hand, and the true nature of discipleship, on the other hand, which will necessarily include a Christ-like suffering and submission of the will to God. "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their crosses and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it."

And much more…

We’ll begin our Fall 2021 Stewardship season and adult formation series this Sunday. As I wrote last week, these conversation start with questions and will surely generate a lot of questions in you all. One important or point of reflection we might raise early on is: "Successful churches focus on their people and become orientated toward marketing, rather than sales. What do you think we do at St. Paul’s? Do we market, sell, or something else?" While this question seems to come from an economic standpoint, together we will unpack the spirituality and theology behind it.

Questions and conversations will be our format through this series. I hope we will connect, move, and inspire in our church family a deeper understanding and commitment to using the many gifts given to us for God's glory and building His Kingdom.

You can read more about our series, as well as see the schedule of our conversations further down this email.

See you Sunday morning at 10am in the Library.

Mike Miller
2021 Stewardship Chair

You've probably seen in the bulletin and here in the weekly email that, at St. Paul's, we're preparing for Confirmation and our Bishop's visit on Oct. 17. Several of our teens and adults have expressed interest in being confirmed, or learning about Confirmation in the Episcopal Church. Those who are interested in being confirmed are invited to come forward this Sunday at 9am or 11am during the Peace for a special blessing as they embark on this season of preparation. Email Fr. Dan with any questions.
