June 1st, 2022 Annual SVCA Meeting

Annual Meeting of the Sweetwater Valley Civic Association

Dear SVCA Members,

I wanted to resend a friendly reminder that our annual meeting is tomorrow, June 1, 2022, at 6:30 pm, at the Bonita/Sunnyside Library Community Room. This will be a fun and important meeting, and a great time to renew your membership if you have not already done so.

San Diego County Budget 💰

Supervisor Nora Vargas will be joining us for the first part of the meeting (she has no planned presentation) and is welcoming feedback on the proposed 2022-2023 budget allocation for San Diego County... and it seems like money is going in the right direction.

I personally feel strongly that we need more money allocated to law enforcement specifically to address our long-standing issue with pass-through and toll avoidance vehicular traffic. Currently, there is little to no enforcement, especially around our elementary schools (running red lights, speeding, and ignoring stop signs have no consequences) and I feel Supervisor Vargas needs to hear us and address these issues in the budget. We would like to hear your opinions at the meeting as well.

The April crime map, included below, was put together by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Dept and discussed at the May meeting by Mr. Julio Garcia, Crime Prevention Specialist. Admittedly the map of neighborhoods is not great, but we will have the large map at the meeting if you want to check it out and give thoughtful consideration to this opportunity to make a difference.

Please also see below are buttons to view the Agenda for the June 1st Annual Meeting as well as the Draft Minutes of the May 4th meeting for your review before we vote to approve.

SVCA Board of Director Positions 🗳️

We continue with the long-standing problem of open Neighborhood Director positions. These positions are part of the Board of Directors of the Association, and as such, are important because these directors keep us informed of neighborhood-specific issues. We welcome your inquiries into open positions.

NOTE: Our Bylaws state that anyone running for elected office must have attended the two previous meetings and must agree before his/her name is submitted for consideration.

Neighborhood Reinvestment Grant 🙌

If you were not aware yet, we were awarded a small Neighborhood Reinvestment Grant from Supervisor Nora Vargas’ office.  The grant funding is allocated to three areas:
  1. Website upgrades to make it work faster and be secure
  2. A marketing campaign to increase SVCA name recognition, our presence in the community, and increase association membership.
  3. Related to increasing our presence in the community, we will sponsor a school art contest to encourage team building and community spirit.
A key part of this marketing campaign is to use the resources of a marketing professional, Keep-it-Growing, to put out selected messages on our behalf to encourage residents to check out and like our Facebook and Twitter pages and to put out messages that will increase our relevance in the community.  All members of the SVCA will start receiving these short communications once a week or a few times a month.

NOTE: If you do not wish to receive these emails, you can do two things—tell me to remove your name from the list, or you can unsubscribe at the end of the email. Everyone’s information is confidential and will never be shared. I realize this could be a sensitive issue, and we will certainly respect any request to opt out.  I suggest you give it a try.  One thing that will be nice is that my cut-and-dry notices/information sent to you could be jazzed up a little and be more fun to read.

SVCA Membership Growth 🪴

We are already attracting new members with our social media efforts so I think we are on the right track! If you have not “liked” our Sweetwater Valley Civic Association Facebook page or followed us on Twitter yet, I would truly appreciate your doing that. Icon links to "Like" and "Follow" our social media pages are provided below.
+ if you are able to, please refer your neighbors, local business owners, family, and friends that live in the area to go online and become a member to support our efforts in keeping Bonita "The Best Place to Live". 🙏
I hope to see you all TOMORROW for our Annual Meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Bonita Library Community Room. We will have a membership sign-up table, water, and a light snack. Best of all, our lovely 🔗 Miss Bonita, Arianna Chavez, will be present to greet you; and she will lead the 🇺🇸 Pledge for us.

Best Wishes,

Judy Tieber, President
