Besides the main events, what else will be happening at the Festival?

Of course, at any Latvian song festival, the main events are the combined choir concert and the folk dancing show. However, these won't be the only things going on during the Festival. We have planned events that are of interest to all generations! There will be something of interest happening every day, from morning going late into the night!

Art Exhibition

The art exhibit features new works by Latvian-American artists as well as for established artists. All pieces that will be on display will relate to the theme On the Road to Latvia’s Centennial. Reniassiance Baltimore Harborplace hotel.

Latvian Fashion and Folk Costume Exhibition

Traditional folk art and modern design will commingle in this showcase of clothing, jewelry, accessories and a photographic retrospective of folk costumes. The exhibit will be divided into three parts, focusing first on ethnographically accurate folk costumes, then modern objects that integrate folk symbols or other traditional Latvian elements, and finally works created by contemporary Latvian designers. Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace hotel.

The Market

The festival Market will boast a dazzling array of goods from a wide variety of vendors. Be sure to stop by to shop for traditional and modern gifts, souvenirs, crafts and festival merchandise. Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace hotel.

Latvian National Theatre Company: Ceļā uz Mājām (Elliot Heinz's Homeward Bound)

A comedy in two acts. It has been likened to a sip of water for the soul - so refreshing, honest, funny, and poignant!  The show uses a clever format to offer up a concentration of problems faced by modern families:  lack of authority, gender roles, skeletons in the closet, dysfunctional phone communications, loss of love, resentment and more. Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Royal Sonesta Court hotel. $40. Seating is limited.

Authors' Circle

Author’s Circle. Literary readings of their work  in Latvian by renowned and emerging Latvian authors have been a tradition at the festivals. This event will feature  established Latvian East Coast poets and novelists as well as guests from the further reaches  of North America and Europe. Monday at 10:00 a.m. Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace hotel. $20.

Film Nights

Spend an entertaining and informative evening watching recent examples of Latvia’s cinematic achievements. Different films will be shown on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, in a program designed to resonate thematically with festival attendees. Please be sure to check the website for updates on programming and schedule. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8:00 p.m. Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace hotel. $15. Tickets at the door.

Latvian Chamber Music Concert

Journey along the path of Latvian academic music, from classical works to today’s modern sound scene. Enjoy new vocal and instrumental chamber music by Latvian composers, played by Latvian musicians. Sunday at 1:00 p.m. American Visionary Arts Museum. $30.

Guest Choir Sōla Concert

The choir Sōla was founded in 1998 and is made up of not only Latvian Academy of Culture students and alumni, but also of youth from other schools and universities.  The school’s artistic director is Kaspars Ādamsons.  Sōla strives for constant improvement, consistently developing its own artistic quality and signature.  They utilize every available opportunity to participate in competitions both domestically and internationally, thus increasing the popularity of Latvia’s choir traditions outside of Latvia’s borders.  The Sōla solo concert will feature Latvian choir music classic staples as well as pieces by contemporary Latvian composers. Sunday at 8:00 p.m. Christ Lutheran Church. $40.

The live music venue The Stage on 5th

This low-key stage on the fifth floor mezzanine of the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace hotel provides a friendly atmosphere and performances by singers, dancers, musicians and other performers. Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace hotel's 5th floor mezzanine.

On the first day we'll play and listen with folk group Iļģi. On the second day we'll make some fun, wearable crafts.  On the third day everyone will participate in a group project adding their contribution to a cooperative work of art. Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace hotel.

Kids’ Musical Morning with Iļģi

A concert program for children and families lead by beloved folk group Iļģi, complete with sing-a-longs and other forms of interactive participation.  During the concert kids will be introduced to various musical instruments and will learn lots of fun new things from the musicians. Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Renaisance Baltimore Harborplace hotel.
