AGM and 20th Anniversary Celebration April 8th at the Stockey Centre
Five founders (L-R): John Mason, Nancy Cunningham, John Shipman, Marianne King-Wilson, Bill Beatty
Shark Class Canadian Championships at SPS
Please help us celebrate our 20th anniversary on Saturday, April 8th at the Stockey Centre at our AGM.

Doors will open for social time/cash bar/snacks at 1800 (6:00 pm).. Admission $10 or donation. RSVP here.

At 1900 (7:00 pm) we will hold the short AGM portion of the evening and afterwards our friend and honorary Life Member, Gordon Laco, will be on hand to speak about his wooden boat.  You may remember Gord’s last visit, when he gave a spellbinding presentation about his experience making the movie Master and Commander.

Gord will capture your heart with his story about the Folkboat Touch Wood that he loved as a youth, lost as an adult, found in the most bizarre situation after a hurricane, and has been bringing to life again. Gord lives, works, and breathes sailing and marine history. He is a founder of the Toronto Brigantine and Atlantic Challenge,  has served on the board of the American Sail Training Association, continues to be a historical consultant on films and documentaries, and has just retired as an officer in the Royal Canadian Navy.

We will also be welcoming our newest nominee for the board, Brad Michael.  Brad and his wife Marilyn are natives of Kitchener-Waterloo, where they raised their two children. Brad founded and owned Heartland Appliances Inc., a manufacturer of kitchen appliances sold throughout North America and Europe.  During this time Brad received the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Hearth Products Association. Brad's love of sailing started as a youngster with a Sunfish and progressed to Laser sailing and eventually to cruising on Georgian Bay. When the winds are blowing on the Big Sound, "Turnaround", Brad's Bluenose sloop can usually be seen in full sail. Brad  is a business graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University, served as President of the Woolwich Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Kitchener and as a Director of KidsAbility in Waterloo. Now retired, Brad and Marilyn spend most of their time enjoying their Georgian Bay cottage , with winter respite somewhere warm, with a good ocean breeze.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the success of SPS over the past 20 years, and we look forward to the years ahead. Hope to see you on April 8th!
