SPS Announces New Partnerships with Local Businesses

SPS welcomes Chris Shaw, the owner of The Country Gourmet Café, well known for fresh, delicious foods and beverages. This partnership will offer a new destination on the shore, for walkers, cyclists, SPS members and our sailing school families who have long wished for a meeting place with healthy food and drink. Doors open for the first time on the May long weekend, with comfortable tables and the only, elevated panoramic view of the Big Sound, with food service.

White Squall will be demonstrating kayaking and paddle boarding from their new Sail Parry Sound location this summer. Professional instruction, kayak and paddle board training will be available most Tuesday and Saturday afternoons in July and August.  SPS welcomes owners Tim and Kathy Dyer, who also operate their Paddling Centre at Cole Lake in Carling, and the town store on James Street.

SPS also welcomes Parry Sound Bikes, owned by Aleesha Mullen and voted twice on the list of  Best Bike Shops in Canada, who will be scheduling a Tour the Town Bike Experience bringing their cycling tours right to Sail Parry Sound, to enjoy our beautiful place on the shore.

AGM 2016 Highlights

We are pleased to introduce our newest board members this year, Carol Wilson, Membership Director and Lis McWalter, CFO.

Carol graduated from Western University and enjoyed a successful career in marketing and event management with firms like Radisson Hotels, Hockley Valley Resort, Woodbine Racetrack and Magna International. After meeting Richard Wilson, an avid sailor and member of the Kingston Yacht Club, she not only fell in love with him but the sport of sailing! Together with their son, Curtis, and family dog they enjoyed several years cruising Georgian Bay out of Midland before deciding that the Sound truly offered "the Finest Freshwater Sailing in the World".  In 2001 they built their future home in Carling Bay where they dock their C&C 37, "Stormy Gladiator".

Lis has a strong background with relevant experience in the corporate world as well as proven track record in community leadership.  She is on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce, member of REDAC, and Chairs WPS SMART seeking to improve broadband in our area.  Lis and her husband have been cottaging in the area for over 25 years.  In 2011 they moved to a home they built on Loon Bay. They are enthusiastic sailors having just returned from a month sailing in the Virgin Islands.   At home they enjoy Georgian Bay on their 43 ft Irwin MKIII centre cockpit sail boat.
Thank you to all of our volunteers and supporters!

New SPS Member Events for Summer 2016

We are delighted to announce that we have the following programs and events planned for our Members to enjoy this summer.

SPS3 Weekly Student Lunches – New for our sailing school students, The Country Gourmet will be offering freshly prepared sandwiches and lunch items weekdays throughout July and August.  Registered sailing school students will be sent an email with the option to pre-order the lunch and snack items in advance of their sailing weeks. The items will be prepared fresh for the students and delivered to SPS3.

Daily Afternoon Tea on the Upper Deck The Upper Deck will be a wonderful place to sit under shade awnings and capture the waterfront activities this summer. Enjoy “Afternoon Tea” each day with freshly baked items and a variety of refreshing cool or warm beverages available for purchase. We are hoping this will be an added value to our sailing school families while they wait to pick up their children in the afternoon following their lessons.

Social Tuesdays at SPS!!
Tuesday Coffee Mornings for Members – Each Tuesday morning we welcome our Members to join in a fun and casual networking opportunity to get to know other members and weekly happenings at Sail Parry Sound. Carol Wilson, our Membership Director, will be in attendance to update members on planned member activities, upcoming regattas, and other exciting events happening both at SPS and the area and answer any questions members may have regarding sailing school and other programs.

Tuesday Night Adult Sailing – Members Only – We are thrilled to offer our Members a Tuesday adult evening sailing night to the sounds of the Bands on the Bay outside at The Stockey Centre, followed by a BBQ on our shores from The Country Gourmet. All members welcome and those wishing to participate please email Carol Wilson at membershipdir@sailparrysound.on.ca. We are planning on offering this from Tuesday, July 6th – Tuesday, August 31st (9 weeks) so if you know of some sailing enthusiasts or adults wishing to learn to sail, let them know, as a membership for $85.00 is an inexpensive way to sail!
