Dear Friend

Welcome to our February 2017 Newsletter

I was really interested to read the quote above from Morgan Freeman and have to say I couldn't agree more - Black History should be recognized and honored as part of American History.  However, as we have seen with the movie 'Hidden Figures' and heard from so many, there are so many missing parts. Karyn Parsons noted that it has such an impact on kids and their values and how they view black people to know that history.  I know watching the movie 'Hidden Figures' had an incredible impact on me; so I can only imagine how many lives would be changed if Black History was shared as an integral part of American History.

When we look back at the history of our own lives we know that there are some events and people that have had incredible impacts on us and the world around us.  It is my hope during this month that we can celebrate and honor some incredible people, sing some wonderful spiritual songs and learn more about the diversity of America.  As Eliot Engel hoped, perhaps in the future we will continue to celebrate the many achievements and rich culture of African-Americans - not just in February but always.

Wishing you every blessing

Rev Catherine

Join Trinity MCC For A Cruise Next Year
Join us next year for a Trinity MCC cruise to the Bahamas!  on Royal Caribbean's Majesty Of The Seas from Nov 13 (Monday) to November 17 (Friday).  We will be cruising on Royal Caribbean's Majesty of the Seas.  Leaving the church grounds on Monday morning by a chartered bus, we will head to Port Canaveral where we will board our ship.  Tuesday we spend cruising along.  Wednesday we are in Nassau. And Thursday we are on a private island in the Bahamas before heading back home where on Friday morning a bus will pick us up and take us back to the church.

We have a group deal:
$331.24 per person for an inside room includes port taxes and charges,
and $369.24 per person for an outside room (not a balcony).
Daily gratuities run about $13 or $14 a day.  Anything you drink or buy (or gamble) is separate, also we will need to pay for the bus to Port Canaveral and back.

To reserve your spot please call 1-800-465-3595, option 4  Group # Trinity MCC 1506809 and pay your $100 deposit.  Final payment will be due on August 30th 2017.

Person of the Month
Each month we pick someone's name out of a basket, who has been nominated for their work at Trinity MCC, for the Person of the Month Award.  This month we recognize the work done by Marcia Millett.  Marcia organizes all the social hours at church, takes the rubbish and recycling, looks after a member who can't come to church, as well as many other things.  Thank you Marcia.

Pastors Days Off in February

During this month Rev Catherine will be taking Tuesdays and another day off, where possible, because she is working Saturdays.

Typically emails are replied to within 36/48 hours unless they are urgent.  If you have an urgent need while Rev Catherine is off please call the church cell phone or a member of the Board and someone will help you.

Fundraising
Don't forget to do your shopping through Amazon Smile - we get money back when you do.  You will need to sign up once for an Amazon Smile Account and then appoint Trinity MCC as your chosen charity.  once that is done it will recognize it each time you go shopping and remind you.

Amazon will donate a percentage to the church of everything you spend.  We do not get to see what you buy and it doesn't cost you any more.  This is a way to help the church to fund-raise without having to do any work - which is a wonderful thing!

There is a lot happening this month at Trinity - please see below for dates for your calendar

Lay Delegates Corner
Hi everyone

This month I challenge you to listen actively and act boldly.  I am borrowing those words from our Moderator Rev Elder Michelle Brown.  The fellowship is in a period of discovery and discernment much like the rest of our world.  We are redefining what it means to be MCC and to be welcoming and inclusive to all people.  As you know, there was a time when it was considered un-Christian to believe that you can be Christian and celebrate and validate people of other faiths.  There are many who still believe this in our world.  As we revised our statement of faith, and we developed our Oasis program, UFMCC has shown that we can remain congruent by following the example of Jesus, and help provide safe spaces for people of other faiths to celebrate their own spirituality.

Secondly, this week Rev Elder Brown announced the coming invitation from UFMCC teams that are listening actively and working to build bridges to make UFMCC more inclusive and relevant to those seeking God's inclusive love to and for all people.

In closing I want to invite you to learn about the teams I talked about above.  I am the Officer of the Disability Access and Inclusion team.  This team has two great aims: we are working with UFMCC leadership and our home churches to offer support and recommendations of how UFMCC events and our home churches can help people with visible and invisible disabilities to feel welcomed and included.  We believe that most people are willing and able to be more inclusive.  They may just know of low cost and time saving ways they can do it.  I want to invite you to prayerfully consider if you feel you could serve one of these teams.  Most of the teams' jobs are not labor or time intensive.  If we work together we can in a short time educate and inform.  This will help UFMCC and our home churches further God's message of inclusive love to all people.

Jim East MHS, CRC,
Lay Delegate of Trinity MCC

Recycling  -  Did you know?
In 2016 we raised $131 by recycling aluminum cans.  Since 1992, we have raised $4479.
The Weight of cans in 2015 was 480 lbs.
Since 1992 we have recycled 14,732 lbs of aluminum cans.  Please keep them coming.

We want to say a huge thank you to Marcia for taking the cans for recycling but also to Linda Lamme for collecting and crushing them and making the job a lot easier.  Don't forget to bring your cans in for recycling in 2017 - you can bring them in a bag once a month, once a week or more or less often.

Gratitude Corner
This month we want to thank everyone who stood with our Muslim friends who were feeling disenfranchised.  What seemed like a small act has had an incredible effect on some of the students and families at UF.  One young woman was crying to think that others would support them.  Never underestimate the power of an act of solidarity.

We want to help y’all get to know each other so each month we will have a section that will introduce people – they will share a little about themselves, but don’t let this be the only way you get to know them!

This month we are getting to know Barb Petersen a little more

I was born in Montana with a father that was a World War 1 veteran & a mother who had been a high school principal. As an only child, my friends were Quacker the duck, Pieaho( Pi for pink, ea for eared & ho for Hockel...my last name),the rabbit, or any strays I could coach home. I loved school, Girl Scouts, & paper dolls.

My teen years were full of activities, clubs, church groups & happiness .I entered college to become a nurse, met a guy, got married, changed careers & went to work for the telephone company. Two children later, I became a manager of a telephone company location in the town that housed Montana State Prison. Twenty seven years later, a divorce, became a corporate trainer, moved to Arizona, met Barbara & the rest is history.

Together, we trained in 14 states, & loved it. Four years later, a buyout was offered, we took it as both of our mothers were in poor health. We moved to Florida, built a house, continued our faith journey in MCC, enjoyed our 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandkids, & our 3 dogs. We are blessed.

If you would like a flower arrangement made at church for a celebration or to honor someone, please see Barb Petersen or sign the sheet at the front entrance.  They are $25 each.

If you would like any important documents laminated, please see Barbara Haws.  This is a fundraiser for Trinity MCC.

Penny Present has offered notary services to the church community on Sundays after church.  If you need something notarized please see Penny.

If you have VCR's that you would like converted to DVD's, Alex and Ginny can do this for you.   It will cost $20 and some of the funds will go to Trinity.

There are copies of the Pastor's installation video available - please see Alex or Ginny.

We love our pets and.....
At Trinity MCC we love to see our animals in church.  However we have two requests:
Please keep your dogs on leads during all events at church
Please bring a blanket or dog bed for your dog.

Some people are scared of dogs (even the small ones) and also for some have allergies and some of our dogs are lovely shedders and the chairs and carpet are getting quite hairy.
Thank you for your cooperation.  We want everyone to enjoy our pets.
