"Lent stimulates us to let the Word of God penetrate our life and in this way to know the fundamental truth: who we are, where we come from, where we must go, what path we must take in life..." -- Pope Benedict XVI

Dear Friend

Welcome to our February 2016 Newsletter

This month we will welcome Rev Elder Dr Nancy Wilson to Trinity MCC.  This is her retirement year from being the Moderator of MCC.  She has served the denomination faithfully for years in several different roles, including Elder, Pastor and more latterly as Moderator.   Her journey is an example to us all, following her calling to a journey that would take her round the world and change lives.

As we prepare for Lent and Easter, we will be following a sermon series theme about Our Journey to the Cross.  This will help us to explore what it means to journey spiritually and to follow our callings; those we know about, those we have suppressed and those we have forgotten or are about to happen.  We will consider how we need to prepare, be open and make sure we have the right tools to journey.

Together as a community we are on a new journey. On Sunday 24th January we looked at some of things we are excited about and shared some of our history and hopes for the future.  My prayer is that we will continue to explore together, talk together and discern our callings together.  This will help us to be the best we can in the community of Gainesville.

Rev Catherine

Christmas Gift Campaign Update

For our Christmas Gift campaign we asked everyone to consider giving towards Trinity MCC installing a Multimedia system which would enhance our worship and towards new signage for the trail outside.
Thank you so much for your generosity.  To date we have received over $1300. To install this system is just over $3,000.  So we will be working hard to raise the funds to get this installed as soon as possible.  If you would like to give to this project, please see Kathy Lucas, Treasurer.  Thank you again for your generosity.

With reference to the signs for the grounds, Barbara Hawes is going to be making these and will be starting this in the next few weeks.

Holy Conversations Update
What a delight it was to have 26 people come to the Holy Conversations and share their thoughts and ideas for the future of Trinity MCC.

There were lots of thoughts around possible ministries and programs we could undertake.  These will be considered and a Strategic Plan will be drawn up to ensure that ideas weren't missed.

There were also lots of ideas about how we can have a diverse set of music during worship, with everyone sharing their favorite genres.  Over the next few months we will look at and learn lots of new songs, sing some old favorites and revisit some of the new ones that have been learnt at Trinity MCC over the past couple of years. We want to make sure our worship reflects the diversity of who we are.

Thank you all for sharing.  If you weren't there but have some ideas about the future of Trinity MCC, please let us know, it is never too late.

“SIX LITTLE STORIES” (Source unknown)

{1}
Once all villagers decided to pray for rain,
on the day of prayer all the people gathered,
but only one boy came with an umbrella.

That's FAITH

{2}
When you throw a baby in the air,
she laughs because she knows you will catch her.

That's TRUST

{3}
Every night we go to bed,
without any assurance of being alive the next morning
but still we set the alarms to wake up.

That's HOPE

{4}
We plan big things for tomorrow
in spite of zero knowledge of the future.

That's CONFIDENCE

{5}
We see the world suffering,
but still we get married and have children.

That's LOVE

{6}
On an old man's shirt was written a sentence
'I am not 80 years old . . .
I am sweet 16 with 64 years experience.'

That's ATTITUDE

Have a happy day and live your life like the six stories!

Lay Delegates Corner
Hi Friends!
We have had a very exciting start to 2016.  I was very pleased
with the diverse fund raiser we had to raise money to send our
Clergy and Lay Delegate to General Conference.

It is a big and transitioning year for UFMCC and the local church is the base and the catalyst of this transition.  With our community programs and ministry to traditional families and the transgender community is how our local church is contributing to and in many ways leading the UFMCC movement both in our own community and our network.

As you may know.  This year UFMCC is electing our new leader.   Rev Doctor Nancy Wilson will be ending her term as the second Moderator of the UFMCC.  We are also going to be electing other important Fellowship leaders and revising our Statement of Faith.   This is only some of the business that will be conducted at General Conference.  I will work with our Board to offer a pre-conference forum where we can discuss how we as a church want to vote on the issues and elections that will be conducted at the UFMCC General Conference.

Lastly, as with most organizations in the 21st century, UFMCC has a large amount of resources on line.  This can lower the cost of getting information out to large groups of people.  It can also concern many people who are not comfortable learning or working with internet technology.  My goal is to work with our Board to make Fellowship related information available to everyone in a suitable format.

In the months leading up to General Conference I hope you will join me to review the pre-conference materials and videos so we can make an informed choice on the issues facing UFMCC and the selection of the next Moderator of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches.

God's Blessings and Grace to you.

Jim East

Lay Delegate for Trinity MCC
