Dear Friend

Welcome to our January 2017 Newsletter

“Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.” ― Carl Bard

Happy New Year everyone.

What a wonderful thought - we can start from now and make a brand new ending.  We can choose to change things this year.

Sometimes it feels as though we cannot control what is around us - well perhaps we can't, but we can choose how we react to things and take control of our own lives.   Oh we can make new year resolutions like giving up smoking, getting fit, cutting back on chocolate (no...these are not mine!).  However surely it would be much more beneficial for us to take steps to make our lives more positive and fruitful.  Sure.....some things are more difficult to change because of the circumstances we are in however sometimes we can find tools to manage these tensions or people to help us.

As a community of faith we have the privilege of being able to be there for each other during our spiritual journey.  Sometimes that involves support, sometimes that means challenge and yet other times we need to be humble and accept the support we are given.

My observation from 2016 is that Trinity MCC is wonderful at giving and supporting people.  My prayer is that as we start this New Year we will make our spiritual journeys our focus and do this together so that we can make an ending to the year that will reflect our yearnings at the start of the year

May your New Year be blessed with amazing possibilities.  God Bless each of you.

Rev Catherine

Reverse Advent Challenge
This year as part of our preparation for Christmas we collected for Advent.  Thank you for all the donations to our Reverse Calendar collection; the Gainesville Area Aids Project are very grateful for the donations.  Thank you everyone.

Miracles Week
As you know we launched Miracle Week between Christmas and new Year to try and reduce our deficit for the 2016 year.  We are pleased to say that we raised $750.  We understand that some others would like to give to the fund - thank you - if you do it will go towards the 2017 running budget.

Interested in Membership?
Are you interested in becoming a member at Trinity MCC?  Wonder what it is all about?  We are looking to have a membership workshop at the end of January/beginning of February.  Please see Rev Catherine and we will arrange a session time that suits everyone who is interested.

Join Trinity MCC For A Cruise Next Year
Join us next year for a Trinity MCC cruise to the Bahamas!  on Royal Caribbean's Majesty Of The Seas from Nov 13 (Monday) to November 17 (Friday).  We will be cruising on Royal Caribbean's Majesty of the Seas.  Leaving the church grounds on Monday morning by a chartered bus, we will head to Port Canaveral where we will board our ship.  Tuesday we spend cruising along.  Wednesday we are in Nassau. And Thursday we are on a private island in the Bahamas before heading back home where on Friday morning a bus will pick us up and take us back to the church.

We have a group deal:
$331.24 per person for an inside room includes port taxes and charges,
and $369.24 per person for an outside room (not a balcony).
Daily gratuities run about $13 or $14 a day.  Anything you drink or buy (or gamble) is separate, also we will need to pay for the bus to Port Canaveral and back.

To get the deal we must have 8 rooms booked by January 5th.
To reserve your spot please call 1-800-465-3595, option 4  Group # Trinity MCC 1506809 and pay your $100 deposit by January 5th.  Final payment will be due on August 30th 2017.

Person of the Month
Each month we pick someone's name out of a basket, who has been nominated for their work at Trinity MCC, for the Person of the Month Award.  This month we recognize the work done by David Clegg.  He has been quietly popping into church to do lots of jobs around the grounds and building.  Thank you David.

Pastors Days Off in January

During this month Rev Catherine will be taking Tuesdays off.

Typically emails are replied to within 36/48 hours unless they are urgent.  If you have an urgent need while Rev Catherine is off please call the church cell phone or a member of the Board and someone will help you.

Fundraising
Don't forget to do your shopping through Amazon Smile - we get money back when you do.  You will need to sign up once for an Amazon Smile Account and then appoint Trinity MCC as your chosen charity.  once that is done it will recognize it each time you go shopping and remind you.

Amazon will donate a percentage to the church of everything you spend.  We do not get to see what you buy and it doesn't cost you any more.  This is a way to help the church to fund-raise without having to do any work - which is a wonderful thing!

How can you can get involved or help Trinity MCC?

People are always asking how they can get involved or help at Trinity MCC.

We wanted to let you know the many ways in which you can help us. Trinity is self-funding and self-sustaining so having everyone be involved is very important.

1.  You can be part of one of our teams - Legacy Team, Grounds Team, C.A.R.E. Team, Prayer Team, Fundraising Team, Worship Team, Board, Technical Team.
2.  You can help with our grounds - we always need work done on our 7 acres.
3.  You can help with our flowers campaign - pots, potting compost, plants.
4.  You can pray with and for us.
5.  You can tell your friends about us.
6.  You can donate financially to our work by sending us a check, or putting money in to an envelope in the offertory each week (with your name on it) or set up a bank order to pay directly to Trinity MCC; that way if you are away the Board know that money is coming in and can budget accordingly.
7.  You can share your thoughts and ideas with us.
8.  You can encourage people to name Trinity MCC in their wills.

However you want to help us - thank you so much.

Lay Delegates Corner
Happy New Year Board, Members and Friends of Trinity MCC.

As we say good bye to 2016 and welcome in 2017 our Church and the Fellowship continue to raise funds and plan for our future.   In both areas we are paying our bills but we are shoring up our financial foundation for the future.  Many of our family are recovering from the great world wide recession, and others of us,
me included, are working to do more with less.

I am excited to report that I have been appointed to the Chair of
the UFMCC Disability Access and Inclusion Team.  This team's
mission will have two great aims.  We will offer recommendations to our home churches of how they can become more welcoming and inclusive to people who with disabilities.  We will also work with the teams that plan UFMCC General Conferences and other events to make them even more accessible to people with disabilities.  I welcome any ideas and recommendations as we as a team work to form our plan for the next three years.

I have and will continue to serve Trinity MCC as your Lay Delegate.  I will continue to serve and attend worship, the Mustard Seed Bible Study Team, as well as other areas of the ministry of Trinity MCC.

Lastly, I have applied to and received support to attend the LEAD Leadership Training program.  I would like to recommend that other new and developing leaders research and consider applying for this or future opportunities; to develop your skills intentionally and spiritually. LEAD offers a unique training opportunity unlike know other.  I hope you will look into LEAD if you believe God is calling you to take a more active role in Trinity MCC as our local Church or if you feel lead to serve at the Fellowship Level.

In closing I want to wish you a happy new year.  I hope you were able to experience and to share the joy of the Season.

We want to help y’all get to know each other so each month we will have a section that will introduce people – they will share a little about themselves, but don’t let this be the only way you get to know them!

This month we are getting to know Nita White a little more

I came to Trinity MCC in the summer of 1999 shortly before my 59th birthday to begin my journey out of “the closet”, my home for 40yrs.  That Saturday, as I sat alone on the grounds, I felt my spirit again unfurl and be at peace and I knew I was home.  Then, on Sunday I began my journey of formerly worshiping God as my authentic self.  Early in 2000 I attended the Millennium March in Washington, D.C. with my partner and didn’t run from or try to shield my face from the TV cameras as we marched down The Mall with hundreds of LGBTQ folks.  My journey toward my true North had begun and I would not turn back.

Most of my work experience has been as a social worker (32 yrs.) with the State of Florida and the Marion Co. School System.  Some of my greatest experiences have been exploring God’s great creation.  I love being outside whether it be in towering mountains, foothills or the beach watching and photographing it all.  Whether it be on lakes, swift flowing or lazy rivers or ocean waves - kayaking, whitewater rafting or simply floating along.  Age (you can figure out how old) has curtailed those activities a great deal, but I can still do other things I enjoy such as reading, listening to music, dining out, going to movies, laughing out loud “cutting the fool” with friends, and serving God by serving Trinity MCC.  It has been said that “Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art.”  With God’s help I’m striving to become a “work of art” – I’ve got the “old people” part mastered. :-)

Don't forget

If you would like a flower arrangement made at church for a celebration or to honor someone, please see Barb Petersen or sign the sheet at the front entrance.  They are $25 each.

If you would like any important documents laminated, please see Barbara Haws.  This is a fundraiser for Trinity MCC.

Penny Present has offered notary services to the church community on Sundays after church.  If you need something notarized please see Penny.

If you have VCR's that you would like converted to DVD's, Alex and Ginny can do this for you.   It will cost $20 and some of the funds will go to Trinity.

We love our pets and.....
At Trinity MCC we love to see our animals in church.  However we have two requests:
Please keep your dogs on leads during all events at church
Please bring a blanket or dog bed for your dog.

Some people are scared of dogs (even the small ones) and also for some have allergies and some of our dogs are lovely shedders and the chairs and carpet are getting quite hairy.
Thank you for your cooperation.  We want everyone to enjoy our pets.
