Welcome to our
end-of-summer newsletter!

It's been a busy summer and, as always, we have many exciting things happening. June started with an Open House, which was a huge success and an opportunity for friends to help celebrate our move to new offices—be sure to check out the photos below. If you weren't able to attend, give us a call and we're happy to give you a personal tour!

The past few months have included lots of travel around the state for IMPACT and Step Up to Family Safety, talking to people about batterers and Batterer Intervention Programs. I’ve provided training for therapists, social workers and substance abuse specialist and court personnel, among others. Our hope is that the more people we train to recognize, intervene and help, the more of a dent we’ll make in this huge epidemic.

As this goes to press, we are adding programs in two more NC counties, Cabarrus and Stanly. We are fortunate enough to be greeted by welcoming future partners: CVAN, DHS, Esther House, Concord Police Department, the DA’s office and others. Stanly County has a Coordinated Community Response, but no abuser program. They share some of the same resources as Cabarrus, so we will be providing a service vital to the CCR—after all, if domestic violence isn't addressed at its source, it's not possible to prevent reoccurrences. We can’t wait to get started in this new partnership when the state certification period kicks off on October 1st.

And finally, a shout-out to our wonderful partners—without you, we couldn't do what we do. In future newsletters we’ll feature some of the incredible people and organizations who are gifts to the community and our allies in the fight to make Charlotte homes safer.

IMPACT Open House: June 6, 2016
NCFADS Summer School
On July 26, Bea Coté taught a Domestic Violence course at the NCFADS Summer School, which serves the needs of various persons working in the field of chemical dependency as well as educators and health care professionals. Here's a note from one of the students in the course:
"I attended the domestic violence training at the NCFADS summer school and would like more information. Anything you could provide would help in the university setting as I talk with the students about domestic violence and TitleIX. I would also like the information from the PowerPoint you presented if possible. I want you to know that you had one of the best presentations at the school and I would love to attend more trainings when available. Thanks in advance!"

Coming Soon: Legacy Program
Step Up is working on a new program which will train select clients who have completed IMPACT to be mentors and peer group facilitators. We're excited about providing an opportunity for clients to be in leadership in the Legacy program while continuing work towards their own personal nonviolence. Be watching for details in future newsletters.
