Welcome to Part 2 of the June newsletter which covers local events, exhibitions etc that may be of interest to you.

Lots of interesting thing to tell you about this month:-

NEW Another chance to visit the Spring Garden at Penheale Manor. Sunday 18 June 2pm - 5pmThese listed walled gardens surround a 17C Jacobean namer house and include impressive yew hedges, with enclosure and surprises, herbaceous borders and rose gardens.  In addition there are beautiful woodland areas with streams, pools and ponds.  Refreshments and Prize Draw. Admission £5, Children (3 - 12) £3.  Egloskerry, Launceston Cornwall, PL15 8RX.

Art of Gwynngala This fabulous exhibition is on Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 June.  11am - 7pm. It is wonderfully varied and interesting - painting, sculpture, pottery, jewellery and hats.  In addition there are gardens, woodland walks and ponds open for exploration; cream teas; a bar, hot food by El Huichol and live music. Eversfield Manor, Bratton Covelly, Devon EX20 4JF.

Foreign Artists inspired by the Cornish Coast.
3 April - 30 June. This exhibition displays a selection of works by artists from around the world who became part of the St Ives Artists' Colony. Open Mon- Fri 10.30 - 4.00.

THIS SUNDAY Vagabond Verses - the poetry of Crosby Garstin (1887 - 1930) A lecture telling the story of adventurer Crosby Garstin told through his poetry. Sunday 4 June @3pm No 8 Westgate Street, Launceston.

The Okehampton & District History Society's June talk is on The true story of the North Devon savages. Wednesday 14 June @ 7.30 at the Ockment Centre, Okehampton.  All welcome, visitors £3.

Macmillan Gidleigh Opera presents Highlights from the Opera performed by the young stars of the National Opera Studio in London.  Saturday 17 June @ 7pm.   Introduced by Jonathan Dimbleby, tickets includes a seat at the gala opera, a glass of wine and canapés prior to he performance.  Wine Bar for interval refreshments.  Auction during the interval.  Dress Formal. NEW Ballet Central Thursday 29 June @ 7.30
Final year students of the Central School of Ballet with their new artistic director Christopher Marney.

This year’s repertoire features work by Sir Matthew Bourne, Indigo Children by Royal Ballet artist in residence Liam Scarlett, and a new version of the ballroom scene from Romeo & Juliet by former English National Ballet’s Jenna Lee. It also includes a specially created work by Christopher Bruce, as well as excerpts from Petipa’s La Bayadereand The Nutcracker.  The tour will also feature a scene from Dracula, choreographed by Michael Pink from the original production directed by Christopher Gable in 1996.Tickets £12.50 - £16.50.
NEW The Comedy of Errors 20 - 30 July.  Outdoor performance in the Rougement Gardens, Exeter.
No formal seating so bring chairs, blankets etc.  7.30pm with matinees at 2pm.  Licensed bar open on site 1 hour before performance.  Tickets £15 - £17

Artists, working in any medium, have been invited to submit a maximum of 3 artworks for consideration. The aim of the Open is to find and reward the best of our regions artists in an open to all visual art competition. This exhibition offers artists the opportunity to exhibit as part of a professionally curated and public-facing show.

Gallery open Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 4pm.

DEVON GUILD, Bovey Tracey
Hortus - A Dartmoor Garden Over Time Fri 5 May - Sun 2 July. Exhibition is the response to an ancient garden by printmaker Jude Freeman.  Comprises etchings, drawings and photographs with a range of contemporary and historic information and artefacts.

War Horse - Michael Morpurgo will tell his powerful & deeply moving story of War Horse: Only Remembered on Sunday July 2 @ 7pm at Pentillie Castle, St Mellion, Saltash PL12 6QD.   Gates open at 5pm with refreshments & Bar available.  Tickets start from £25 adults/£15 children.
Wrap up warmly as this event will be held in an unheated marquee.

The Emperor's New Clothes. A fantastic end of term performance on Friday 14 July at 7pm at Nethercott House. It will be performed by Illyria who performed this Hans Christian Anderson story in 2000, when it was the Critics' choice at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.  Gates open at 5pm.  A hog roast and bar available from 5.30pm Tickets are £16 adults/£12 children under 12. This is an outdoor performance so dress up warmly.

A jazz concert starring The Steve Tucker All Star Jazz Band  and the Copplestone Community Choir on Saturday 8 July from 6.15pm. Picnic on the airfield from 4.30pm.  Or food from La Cantina Street Kitchen; Pizza Buona; Camper Coffee Co and Farmer Tom's Dairy Ice Cream - take you pick while enjoying the jazz. Raffle. Tickets £12.50 (Under 16s £6.25) from Eggesford Garden Centre (01363 83245) Online at (fee applies).  At the gate £15 (under 16s £7.50).
All in aid of the charity Save a Cow - an innovative, influential & effective African development charity.

NEW K'ANTU Ensemble ConcertAn evening with Semi-Toned. Sat 8 July @7.30pm at Bratton Clovelly Parish Hall.  K'Antu Ensemble are a group of young musicians who explore the less-trodden territories of early music, combining elements of folk and world music from Europe & South America. Doors and bar open at 7pm.  Tickets £10, under 16s £6.

If you are interested in play reading, why not pop into the Time for Life Play Reading Group for the over 50s.  The group meets on the 1st Friday of each month 2.30 - 4.30 at Castle Ham Lodge, Castle Road, Okehampton EX20 1HT.  £2 including refreshments.
The Okehampton to Exeter summer train service.  Four trains each way until 10 September 2017. Shop until you drop or change at Exeter for a day out in Exmouth, Dawlish and Teignmouth without the hassle of parking.  A wonderful day out.
