Dear Members

This is the first of our Autumn events newsletters and it gives you a round-up of some of the local events and happenings over the next couple of months. Both the Devon Artist Network Open Studios and the Two Moors Festival are coming soon which give us a wonderful array of art and music. These together with many local events promise a super start to the Autumn. So I hope you find something to enjoy.  

THIS SUNDAY Sunday 3rd September 10.30am - 5.00pm This beautiful garden features a colourful herbaceous bed and a spring garden, a collection of elms, an orchard, wildflower areas and three ponds.  Geese, ducks, frogs, barn owls, bees and hedgehogs will hopefully be in attendance. There will be several conducted tours and times will be listed. 
  • Cream teas, bacon butties, drinks, cakes
  • Dogs on leads welcome
  • Limited Wheelchair access (main garden area only)
  • Wear suitable outdoor shoes.
  • Sunny weather guaranteed (only joking!)
£5 entry, children under 12 free.  In aid of the British Red Cross.

Botanical Mono Printing Day
Sat 2 & 30 Sept 10 am - 3pm £35
Come and create seasonal monoprints - combining hand cut stencils, leaves and stems, we will make layered prints with lots of textures, shapes and colours. Learn how to use the little printing press as well!  This workshop is suitable for both complete beginners and more experienced students.  Come and have fun and leave with 4-5 stunning prints!
Life Drawing Day Monday 11 Sept 10am - 3pm £25
A Life Drawing day session with professional models, male and female, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the Parish Hall. All welcome, whether established artist or absolute beginner. We plan to do short poses in the morning and a series of longer ones in the afternoon. You certainly don't have to be any good to get started as in our opinion drawing is far too important to be left to experts! Spare easels, chairs and a limited number of tables available to borrow - please call Georgie on 01647 440775 to discuss. Tea and coffee available.
NEW Forestry Ventures - A Century of Change in Fingle Woods 16 September - 28 October.  Fingle Woods is an extensive and beautiful ancient woodland on the northern fringes of Dartmoor.  From the 1930's onwards it was a site for Dartington's Forestry Venture; a revolutionary approach to forestry management.  This multi-media exhibition, drawing on film and photographic archives and oral histories, seeks to capture Fingle;s fascinating past and tells the story of the people who lived and worked there over the last century.

NEW Granite Elements Exhibition Friday Sept 8 - Sun Oct 15. Granite Elements' is a two year Parishscapes (Bovey Tracey) project, which aims to engage with the community, developing a sense of place through experience and knowledge. Looking at Granite in the context of history, geology, flora and fauna, environmental influences, legends and heritage. This is exhibiton is the coming together of an eclectic group of artists to show off their personal response to Granite. NEW Dead on Arrival Exhibition re human and animal craft Sat September 23 - Sun Nov 5. An exhibition of national and international artists/makers whose practice involves the use of ethically-sourced, human or animal remains. The work will show a depth of practice and will feature works of jewellery, sculpture, textiles, taxidermy and photography.  This exhibition is supported by Plymouth City Council (Arts and Heritage). From their collections we will juxtapose historical artefacts alongside the contemporary works, illustrating how artists have been influenced by materials which have been used to decorate and adorn for a millennia.
