New OMA Campaign
Arbitration Info
Teletown Hall
On Monday, the OMA will roll out a new election-focused campaign that holds government to account for the serious problems they’ve created in health care.
Members have told us to toughen up our public profile. This campaign, titled “Not a Second Longer,” highlights government’s poor decision-making in health care and reinforces physician and patient concerns around wait times.
We have targeted radio and digital ads, a new public website, social media, earned media, and an online video ad for sharing (coming soon).
We also have a member toolkit online here that you can use to support the campaign and strengthen our message. The toolkit includes campaign ads, sample tweets, links to the video ad, and other materials that you can display in the office or share online.
This campaign is part of the OMA’s broader election strategy to make health care the top priority in the upcoming provincial election. I hope you’ll support this effort and engage your local candidates and communities.
The public looks to physicians as leaders. Your voice will make a difference, so together let’s work to drive health care to the top of the election agenda!
Arbitration Info
We’ve had a lot of positive feedback to our Monday updates on arbitration. Thank you!
Please check out the comprehensive information on the website here that shows our position and supporting rationale as well as the government position.
The FAQ document focuses on timelines and process, and the issues to be addressed in Stage I and Stage II of arbitration.
We’ve responded to a few media inquiries and the stories have been favourable. Here’s links to the Toronto Star and Globe and Mail articles.
Teletown Hall
We had a great teletown hall session Tuesday night, with more than 80 members on the phone for over an hour. Thanks to everyone who called in.
Members want reassurance that the OMA intends to fight back hard against the government’s offer. I want to be clear:
- We want our stolen money returned.
- We want fair increases that reflect the raises given to other public sector groups.
- We want government to do its job to fund population growth and aging, patient needs for medical care and new physicians entering the system. It’s the Ministry’s responsibility to fund the physician services budget, not doctors’.
We’ll be fighting aggressively to protect the interests of all members at the arbitration table – we have experienced negotiators on our side, and we’ll be making the strongest possible arguments.
Also, I want to reiterate that we’re in a much better position today with binding arbitration than we were a few years ago. We’re confident that having a neutral third party involved will play an important part in doctors finally getting a fair contract.
Thank you.
Shawn Whatley
OMA President
