It’s important to update your PPE needs!

Having up-to-date information on your needs for personal protective equipment is crucial to the OMA’s efforts to improve access to PPE.

Some of you have already received PPE, so your needs have changed. We also understand that PPE may be available from several sources.

The OMA provides data from its PPE Inventory tool to partnering community drives so that they can match available supply with doctors in need. Your information must be current to ensure supplies are distributed equitably. Up-to-date information also supports ongoing advocacy efforts.

Please update the OMA PPE inventory tool regularly if you receive PPE – or at least once a week.

Update: federal support programs for physicians facing hardship

The OMA hired MNP – one of Canada’s leading national accounting, tax and business consulting firms – to develop a physician-focused guide to the various supports and incentives being made available by the federal government. This document is being updated regularly as new information becomes available.

Read the April 18 edition.

OMA Town Hall on financial matters

The OMA will host a member town hall on financial matters and federal relief programs on Thursday (April 23) from 8–9 p.m. MNP financial experts, the OMA Executive Committee and senior management will answer your questions and highlight resources available to physicians. This Doctors’ Day Ontario shines a light for you.

May 1 is Doctors’ Day in Ontario! With it falling in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the OMA is initiating a special tribute called ‘Shine A Light For Them’. Ontarians can come together to celebrate the thousands of dedicated and selfless doctors. Support will be shown by turning on their phone flashlights and holding them high on May 1 at 9 p.m. to show their gratitude, appreciation and hope for the future. To get the word out we’re developing a social media campaign that you can help launch. Shareable content you can post to your social channels is available here doctorsday.ca. In addition, Ontarians will be encouraged to show their support for doctors by posting their appreciation to social media using the hashtags #DoctorsDay and #ShineALightForThem.

Tracking COVID-19 data

The OMA has developed a dashboard to track COVID-19 cases in Ontario. It shows a time series of cases of health-care workers, LTC residents, cases originating in hospital and other applicable data.

Access the dashboard.

And, in response to member feedback, the OMA geography map of COVID-19 cases can now be adjusted by population.

Providing Care

Royal College resources for health professionals

In addition to the resources available on our website at oma.org/coronavirus, members may find the Navigating Medical Emergencies (NavMe) guide to patient management compiled by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons helpful. This interactive guide is updated frequently.

Access the guide.

Long-term care Town Hall

The OMA Section on Long-Term Care/Care of the Elderly along with the Ontario Long-Term Care Clinicians hosted a Long-Term Care and COVID-19 Townhall on April 9. Drs. Andrea Moser, Rhonda Collins, Julie Auger and Pamela Liao answered questions on management strategies from the urban, suburban, rural and palliative perspective. This was a great opportunity to discuss solutions for the challenges we are all facing in long-term care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The OMA has also compiled thorough and easy-to-navigate resources, including our end-of-life planning and care toolkit and recommendations for responding to COVID-19 in long-term care settings.
