On September 8, 30,000 people marched down San Francisco's Market Street demanding meaningful and immediate climate change action from elected leaders. Joining those thousands was the powerful, farmer-led contingent organized by Seed the Commons. We marched with clear message: veganic farming will cool the planet.
A shift to veganic farming, a tried and tested solution to effectively reduce and remove greenhouse gases caused by unsustainable industrial and agricultural practices, is a must if we are serious about addressing climate change. Yet resistance to meaningfully include agriculture in the list of solutions continues to exist from the majority of the environmental movement. Worse, when agriculture is included, corporate and colonial institutions like grazing and ranching -- which are principle drivers of climate change! -- are presented as panaceas.
We are proud to have created a platform for these small farmers to speak up about veganic agriculture, both on the streets and at our at our Rise for Climate: Food, Agriculture & the Environment (check out the recorded livestream!). The consensus was unequivocal from this community on the front lines of climate change: veganic agriculture is a real solution and the time to transform our food system is now.
