Dear friends,
Land Rights Now is a global call to action to secure indigenous and community land rights everywhere. What is it about? Nothing less than eradicating poverty and hunger, protecting the environment and fighting climate change, and building a world where human rights are protected.
For Earth Day, thirty-six mobilizations were organized in twenty-seven countries between April 22 and 29. Seed the Commons heeded the call and organized the only #LandRightsNow event to take place on the West Coast. As we watched videos about land rights struggles in Mexico, Indonesia and Brazil, we discussed their relevance to climate change and how to participate in comparable and connected activism in the Bay Area.
I will carry these ideas with me to the Farmed Animal Conference, where I will speak about the importance of activism that aims to reclaim food systems from corporate control. The Farmed Animal Conference is looking to be a phenomenal event and I am deeply honored to speak alongside an incredible roster of presenters. The keynote speaker is feminist Carol Adams, whose book, The Sexual Politics of Meat, can not be recommended enough.
