Hi  <<First Name>>

The Centenary celebrations are now fully underway and for 2022 the annual dinner became the Centennial Dinner. The club house was full and the members who were fortunate enough to get tickets enjoyed an excellent meal. Good  food, good company and some humorous anecdotes from the invited speakers made for an entertaining night.
The evening opened with a couple of specially written poems from published poet and Astbury member John Hunter. Framed copies of which he presented to the Club Captain and Lady Captain for display

Master of Ceremonies Denny Stevens then introduced Olympic Gold Medallist Martyn Grimley. Martin who won his medal for hockey in 1988 at Seoul is now the President of the Cheshire Union of Golf Clubs he congratulated the members and Directors of the club on reaching 100 years before regaling the room with conditions at Seoul 34 years ago ie no internet etc.

After the Loyal Toast proposed by Club President Steve Whalley the Captain Dr Mike Sumner amusingly proposed the toast to the visiting guests and the Captain of Congleton Golf Club Mr Dave Mitchell gave a suitable response. The Captain then introduced the Guest Speaker who this year was the Operational Lead Manager at the new Christie Hospital in Macclesfield. Catherine Fensom explained her role at the new unit, explaining  that the Christie charity is supporting the £26 million new cancer centre in Macclesfield where Christie patients will receive outstanding cancer care, closer to home. She concluded by thanking the Astbury members for supporting the Christie Charity during this special year.
