Hi  <<First Name>>

Sunday 12th December will go down in memory for three reasons.
  1. It was the Captains Drive In
  2. The Official opening of our new Pro Shop
  3. It didn't rain.
The Captains Drive In is an enjoyable event and around a hundred members and guests turned out to celebrate the unofficial start to the Captains year of office. The coming year, in case you have not heard yet, is a very special one. we are celebrating 100 years of Astbury Golf Club.  If the Drive in is anything to go by Captain Dr Mike Sumner and lady Captain Linda Stevens will (as they say) do the club proud. They hosted an excellent buffet lunch (A Billy special) and raffle.
The highlight is of course the Drive In and our Captains dressed to impress with an imaginative attempt at the 1922 look. Despite first tee nerves both Captains produced commendable yardages.

Using an ancient piece of equipment The Captain managed to drive the ball 130 yards. The Lady Captain achieved a creditable 56 yards,
The Dream:  Practice swings demonstrating a classic follow through.
The Reality:  Maybe a loss  of hip rotation. Fortunately our new PGA professional Daniel Bills was nearby and is happy to offer treatment. As a medical man the Captain is aware that in his case the swing condition could be terminal.
Just a few of the early arrivals.  It's nice to see a busy clubhouse again.

Grand Opening

Club President Steve Whalley is pictured officially welcoming our new PGA Professional Daniel Bills to Astbury Golf Club. The Captain Dr Mike Sumner and Lady Captain Linda Stevens were able to offer their best wishes before cutting the ribbon and inviting all to pop into the new and greatly improved shop.
Did you collect your Christmas Cracker
on Sunday?

If not don't worry the offer remains in place into the New Year
The Humour bit.

It's a funny old game

Golf! You hit down to make the ball go up. You swing left and the ball goes right. The lowest score wins. And on top of that, the winner buys the drinks.

Why do golfers hate cake?
Because they might get a slice.

Golf was once a rich man’s sport, but now it has millions of poor players!

“I once played a course that was so tough, I lost two balls in the ball washer!”
