Exhibitions

American Impressionism

Treasures from the Daywood Collection
On view though October 28, 2021
We're extending the show! We're giving you a few extra days to view American Impressionism: Treasures from the Daywood Collection. Learn more about the exhibition and plan your visit through the button below!

American Impressionism: Treasures from the Daywood Collection features 41 rarely-seen Impressionist paintings originally from the private collection of Arthur Dayton and Ruth Woods Dayton (whose surnames combine to create the collection’s portmanteau name: “Day-Wood”). Celebrated as patrons of the arts in West Virginia and as consequential collectors of American art, the Daytons developed a fine art collection that exceeded 200 works. This extraordinary and beautiful exhibition exemplifies how the support of patrons like the Daytons helped American Impressionists claim their niche in the art world, allowing them to hone their crafts, survive as artists, and find national acclaim at the turn of the 20th century.

Workshop: Oil Painting

With Kate Carney: Irresistible Focus on Complimentary Colors
Saturday, December 11 | 10 am to 4 pm
This fun, interactive workshop focuses on understanding and using complementary colors in an expressive manner, which is part of the magic of Impressionist painting. This is a hands-on day of painting, and artists will work along with Kate learning, growing, making messes, laughing, and best of all...creating. After displaying a piece implementing the techniques to be learned that day, Kate then demonstrates each stage of the process and gives the artists the chance to work on their own iris paintings.
