Gold Panning Tour
Hosted by Pat Mauro
Saturday, August 5
Hello members and friends,
Join the PCHS on a Gold Panning Working Field Trip
The Park County Historical Society will have our second field trip of 2017 on Saturday, August 5!
We will meet at McGraw Park in Bailey at 9:00 and trek across South Park to Fairplay. We'll meet at the Park County Court House (across from the 1874 court house). From there we will visit mining sites in the Fairplay and Alma area to view remnants of the once bustling mining mecca, including the Snowstorm Dredge! Mining is starting to come back to the area now.
Then the main feature:
We will head to Fairplay Beach, where PCHS founder Harold Warren's grandson Bill Douthett will show us his gold panning technique, which he has been perfecting for some time. Fairplay Beach is a location where people have found REAL gold!
There is a cost for this trip as Fairplay charges admission for panning at the beach. The cost is $10.
Please RSVP by August 1 at 303-947-4369.
With the RSVP, it reserves your spot.
Bring your own gold pan. The Sasquatch Outpost on Main Street Bailey has them.
