Nutrition

October means the beginning of the holidays!  Although this is a time of year most are looking forward to, it usually leaves our bodies feeling not so great.  One way to ensure a happy and healthy holiday is to watch what you eat.  Dietitian Nicole Eichinger is here to help wether you follow her on Facebook for her dietitian tips, schedule a consultation, or subscribe to her meal plan. She is a wealth of information. Here are a few words from her: Holiday season reminds me of pumpkins and the spices that go along with it. However for most, it usually entails a few too many indulgences of sweets that can leave us bloated, uncomfortable and a few pounds heavier than you were going into the holidays. A great way to give into your pumpkin cravings while keeping a happy and healthy lifestyle is to spruce up your plain, healthy, and cheaper foods.  Follow me on Facebook for nutritious meal ideas, a link is provided in the links section below.
Dietitian Tip: Having a healthy gut is so important and pumpkin puree is a great source of fiber to help out with your digestion. Add a ¼ cup of pumpkin puree to your plain oatmeal with a
splash of vanilla extract and spice it up with a dash of nutmeg, cinnamon and ground cloves. Top with a handful of pecans and a drizzle of local honey! You can also add these pumpkin toppings to your plain greek yogurt! Both are great for breakfast or a nice treat after a massage.

Ginger

Ginger essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the root. A link directly to Source Vital's ginger is provided in the links section of the newsletter, and it is also available for purchase at your next massage. Ginger is most commonly used for alleviating nausea and it is ok to use during pregnancy. Ginger aids in digestion, it can be beneficial to help digest meats. It can also alleviates gas and bloating, indigestion, diarrhea, as well as food poisoning symptoms and bacteria. Ginger is also great for the respiratory system, clearing mucus and helping shortness of breath. This as well as its muscle pain relieving trait makes it beneficial during your massage. Ginger is an anti-inflammatory due to the presence of Zingibain and can also help with arthritis, headaches, and migraines. It can help to strengthen the heart and prevent blood clotting, as well as relieve stress and anxiety.  Interesting fact: Ginger has been used in research on animals with cancer, ginger may be useful in treating cancer.  ***Information provided on essential oils is not medical advice.
