This week's sermon:

"Measuring What Matters: Finances"

Mark 10:17-31

Rev. Russ Boyd preaching

Throughout the gospels, Jesus talks about money, possessions, and how we use the resources we have. If he didn't shy away from discussing those topics directly, we as Christians should be able to talk about them as well. This Sunday's sermon will provide some plain talk about how giving works at Ridglea Christian Church, what the church needs from you to fulfill our mission and ministry, and a few practical things related to money that we often dance around or don't say out loud.

Property Volunteer Workday

Sunday, September 26 at 3:30 pm

It's almost time to FINALLY unload the storage pods and move furniture back into the offices, classrooms, nursery, and other places in the building that were affected by burst pipes back in February.

Whether you can carry things, re-assemble desks, sort items, or arrange a room - we need your help! Come to the church from 3:30 - 5:30 pm next Sunday afternoon, and let's work together to get everything set back up. We have youth group for 3rd grade and up and childcare for 2nd grade and under to ensure parents are able to help out with the effort.

We hope to see you on September 26 - and we hope to ensure those storage pods are gone before Sunday, October 3!

Stewardship Reflection #2

Watch Kat Stupka share what it means to find welcome and community here at Ridglea Christian Church. โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ  How can you use the gifts God has given you to help our church expand our welcome and make a difference in our community?

After hitting "pause" in March 2020 due to COVID, our weekly Tai Chi group has resumed meeting! The group meets every Wednesday at 11:00 am in the Worship & Wonder room for a seated Tai Chi session designed for senior adults. The side porch door provides a nearby entrance with a ramp for accessibility. If you would like to add some guided movement to your week, consider joining our Tai Chi group! No experience necessary, and the group collects donations to help offset the facility usage cost.

Our Senior Minister, Rev. Russ Boyd, leaves Sunday evening for a weeklong Doctor of Ministry course at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. The title of the course is "Advancing Leadership: Practical Ministry Amidst Theological Tensions/Cultural Change," and it's designed to help clergy interpret cultural dynamics and shifts in their particular context in order to rethink congregational leadership and effectively manage change.

During the week, our ministry intern Taylor Condre and several volunteers will ensure someone is in the church office Tuesday - Friday. Thanks to Pam DeVoe, Jana Henthorn, Suzanne Jorgenson, Vicki Majors, and June McGee for volunteering their time to help next week!

Throughout the pandemic our mission as a church has been to love God and love our neighbors in ways that keep each other safe. This has led us to learn how to be the church and worship in ways that we would have never imagined two years ago. We have learned that God is everywhere, and that nothing can stop us from sharing God's love!

Our Leadership Team met in late July to discuss updates to our current policies and precautions due to rising COVID numbers in our community. The group determined that while our current precautions are still appropriate, we should encourage people to carefully consider if participating in worship, classes, and meetings via our online options is a better choice - particularly for those who share a home or have regular close contact with individuals who are not vaccinated. To help everyone think through their options for participating in church life, we have put together a consolidated list of our current policies and precautions, as well as our online opportunities for participation.

From Taylor Condre, Ministry Intern:

This Sunday, September 19, we will have Youth Group from 3:30-5:30. We will be planning our Pet Blessing serving coming up on October 3. Come with ideas for the Pet Blessing!

On September 8 our congregation began a book study of "Be the Bridge: Pursuing God's Heart for Racial Reconciliation" in partnership with our friends at Community Christian Church and South Hills Christian Church. The study meets on Zoom every other Wednesday at 7:00 pm, and if you missed the first meeting you are welcome to jump in for our next gathering on September 22. The study provides a great opportunity to grow as we learn from each other's perspectives, and share honestly about how we as Christians can build bridges toward racial reconciliation. You can buy the book yourself as a paperback or e-book, or the church has several copies available in the foyer on Sunday mornings for $10.

Next gathering we will be discussing Part 1: The Bridge to Lament (chapters 2 and 3). For this study we are utilizing breakout rooms for smaller discussion groups, and a podcast by the clergy of the three churches will arrive before the next meeting. Be sure to subscribe to "New Church for a New Day" on Apple Podcasts or listen to each episode on the Spreaker website.
