~ A WORD FROM OUR FOUNDER: SETTING YOUR DAILY MISSION ~
Jumping into your day without a plan can leave us feeling scrambled, unorganized, and usually very unfocussed. Those that I coach have heard me talk plenty about morning routines. Hydrate, Move, Sunshine, Mindfulness, Learn, etc. Sound familiar? Well I'll be the first to admit that I don't nail all those every morning - but boy do I ever operate completely Optimized when I do!

An ingredient to this routine I find incredibly important (no, not my coffee, though it's up there ;) is setting a mission for your day. Don't confuse this with goal setting (also a very important tool). Your mission can be anything. Something that you have been procrastinating, a task your partner has been harassing you to get done, a work project, the biggest task you have that day, a phone call to your mother-in-law, anything. Now it certainly doesn't have to be something your dreading or work related. Sometimes the most impactful missions are ones that you walk away from uplifted, enriched, and fulfilled. A mission to make someones day that much brighter, a mission to make a stranger smile or laugh, a mission to make a co worker feel appreciated, a mission to make your partners day easier. The possibilities are endless.

Setting your mission, and writing it down will give you focus and clarity towards whatever it may be, and drastically increase the chance it will actually get done. Tony Robbins says "Progress Equals Happiness". Completing your mission is certainly progress, and speaking through experience, completing your mission, no matter how big or small, will bring you happiness.

~ THIS WEEKS TIP: BENEFITS OF A WORKOUT PARTNER ~
Many people love the idea of having a gym buddy or partner, others swear by working out alone. Is one right and the other wrong? No. But here are some reasons why a workout partner can boost your performance and relationship.

Dating back to the origins of fitness and gyms as a whole, workout partners were very common, mainly one friend spotting another friend and taking turns lifting weights, however there are some physiological and psychological advantages to working out with someone. More commonly training partners are friends, spouses, family or any other two-person relationship you can think of. There is a multitude of advantages to working out with someone compared to working out alone.

  • Improve efficiency of your workout
  • Increase your emotional bond
  • Help you achieve your fitness goals

Working out alone can get boring, scrolling Instagram between sets can only entertain you for so long. You lose focus and intensity for the workout quickly and usually leads to an early exit to the showers in most cases. It has been proven that simply the presence of another person can improve your ability to do an activity and increase your energy output. Especially if this person is of the opposite sex or a romantic interest/partner. Our bodies release increased amounts of testosterone and adrenaline when around someone we’re trying to look good for or impress, thus leading to more purposeful workouts and increased performance!

Whether it’s a romantic interest or a good buddy, completing strenuous and difficult tasks together can create what’s called non-verbal mimicking. You may start to lift weights in sync, run the same pace or throw a medicine ball back and forth in unison. The bond that’s created gives the parties involved an intensified bond that cannot be matched by much else, if you really want to impress your crush, take them on a gym date ;).

Accountability is a massive component to any fitness journey and some people brave it alone coming up short more times than not. When a partner or friend takes an interest in your fitness goal you’re much more likely to stick to the goal. Being able to rely on each other to eat well, push hard in workouts and stay the course will get you to your goal much easier. Make sure not to rely too heavily on your partner though, as putting too much on them and outsourcing your mental effort will relate to lower effort physically.

Moral of the story today is; find a friend, love interest or family member, get in the gym and crush your goals! For these reasons and many more, it’s never too early or too late to start tackling what may seem like hefty fitness goals. Why not now? For the rest of the workout portion, come see us or contact us here at Body Architects for any exercise related questions or concerns you may have!

THE BA BLENDER ~
recipes for performance & longevity

Brain Boosting Blackberry Muffins -  - gluten free, refined sugar free, vegan

What you’ll need:

3 medium ripe bananas
1/4 cup coconut oil (melted)
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
Pinch of salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 1/4 cup almond flour
1 1/4 cup gluten free flour- we used cassava flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 heaping teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 cup fresh or frozen organic blackberries

Preheat over to 350 F
Mash bananas with a fork in a large bowl, add all remaining ingredients, mix to combine.
Grease muffin liners with coconut oil or other cooking oil and fill 3/4 full with batter.
Bake for 22-25 min or until toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.
Let cool and enjoy!

Why we love this:

  • Blackberries contain high amounts of manganese, an important nutrient known for optimal brain function. A notable percentage of it in the body is found in the synapses of the brain. So enjoy your blackberries to keep your brain neurons firing and at peak performance.

  • Coconut oil has more benefits then I have space to list, but the brain health component really resonates with me. Coconut oil has been shown to to drive down brain related inflammation and is extremely helpful at improving mental performance and reducing the risk of brain related disorders.

  • Sweetened with fruit! No refined sugar means less glycation and less inflammation!
