Cold thermogenesis: The chilly hack to upgrade your brain

Being too comfortable is literally the death of longevity.  Something all leading edge longevity experts and bio hackers seem to unanimously agree on.  When it comes to jumping in a frigid cold pond, pool, ice bath,  or cryotherapy chamber, uncomfortable can be an understatement. The benefits are numerous and I will take the time to mention what I believe to be the top five, and I'd like to steer the conversation towards the brain health and cognition benefits.  Many, like myself have been spending more time reading, studying, and working from home, so speaking to how you can ensure you are taking at least one step to optimize the grey matter between the ears seems timely.  
Now, we don't all have daily access to a cryotherapy chamber, or even an ice bath for that matter, but I know for a fact you all have access to a shower equipped with a cold water option. So committing to this protocol is free of all excuses. Just tolerating a minimal amount of time (start with 20 deep box breaths or 1 minute, work up to 2 minutes) with the shower nob turned to maximum coldness you can take advantage of many of the benefits of cold thermogenesis, including, but not limited to:
  • Supporting your immune system  
  • Induce fat loss even in the absence of exercise (but not a substitute)
  • Increase cell longevity
  •  Strengthen the appetite-regulating vagus nerve connection between the gut and brain (can help suppress appetite)
  • Restore BBB (Blood Brain Barrier) health by causing increased blood flow and NO (nitric oxide) delivery to your brain, which increased BBB integrity and suppresses BBB degeneration
Perhaps the most impactful beneficial effects are observed in the brain, where levels of the hormone and neurotransmitter norepinephrine – responsible for vigilance, attention, focus, and positive mood – increase markedly when the body is exposed to extreme cold.
I for one believe when it come to the brain, its performance, and longevity, what do we have to loose when such a robust number of studies and experts come to the same conclusion, so get chilly!!

Week two did not disappoint!      

Don't fret if you haven't signed up yet, now the recruiting for Districts has begun!  Below is the original registration instructions, have a read, and jump on board! 


You will be divided into districts upon sign up and will work together with your fellow tributes to win the games!
 

On the Sunday night of every week we will be releasing the upcoming weeks challenge.  Work your hardest and complete each challenge to the best of your ability to earn points for your team. 

We as the game makers and the Capitol will be dropping handicaps and changes to the challenges as we see fit so beware and you’ve been warned! 

We will be using our very own Body Architects App to track your progress, if by the end of each week you have not posted your scores they will not count towards your district total.  You are more than welcome to post multiple scores per week to help better your districts overall score.

THE BA BLENDER ~
Recipes for Performance & Longevity 
Mocha Energy Bliss Balls      
What you’ll need: 
  • 1 cup gluten free large flake oats 
  • 1.5 scoops sunwarrior mocha protein powder (could sub another plant based protein powder but results would vary) 
  • 1/4-1/3 cup pure maple syrup (depending on consistency of nut butter)
  • 1/2 cup almond butter (could sub another nut butter of choice) 
  • 1/4 cup dairy free dark chocolate chips 
Directions: 

Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Place in freezer for 5-10 minutes to cool dough enough to easily roll into balls. Roll into 1.5 inch balls (You could enjoy now but best enjoyed after they’ve sat for the oats to soften and absorb the wet ingredients).  Place balls on a plate lined with parchment paper or in container back in the freezer for minimum 30 minutes. 
Best kept cool, we keep ours in the freezer and take out and let thaw for 5-10 minutes before enjoying or you could keep in the fridge for a few days. 


Why we love these:
