Exciting News from Canadian School Libraries

A year after the idea of a new national school library organization was first discussed at TMC4, we are very pleased to announce that CSL is now incorporated as a non-profit organization, and we have submitted our application for charitable status.  So much had already been accomplished prior to incorporation, thanks to the dedication of the Working Group and the generosity of our supporters across the country. Governance of the organization is now the responsibility of the Board of Directors.

The ongoing success of CSL projects like Leading Learning / L'Apprentissage en tête, TMC, CSL Signature Seminars, and a new school library journal will rely on the expertise of practitioners and scholars from across the county.  Our next newsletter will include a call for committee volunteers. Please consider getting involved!
Announcing TMC5

In our fall newsletter, Shape the Future, we called on school districts and associations to consider co-hosting TMC5 with CSL. Never in our wildest dreams did we expect such a generous response from our school library community in support of TMC research symposiums.

We reviewed the offers to co-host the next TMC and are very pleased to announce that the Manitoba School Library Association SAGE Conference in October, 2017 will be the home for TMC5. We are excited to participate and explore research papers on issues in school library learning commons practice that speak to Indigenous education, human rights, diversity and inclusiveness to complement the timely conference theme, Truth in Our Stories: Seeking a Path to Reconciliation.
The SAGE conference will take place on Friday October 20 followed by a tour of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Our traditional TMC evening dinner social will be held on Friday evening and the TMC symposium will take place on Saturday October 21, 2017. Watch for details in the upcoming SAGE/TMC information package.

The invitation for papers will be announced very soon as well, but to help you start thinking about possible topics for research and papers we share the theme of TMC5 and sub-themes to guide your contributions to this important study.

Announcing CSL Signature Seminars

Inspired by the wide interest in TMC we have explored ways to transform the enthusiastic offers to co-host the symposium into new professional growth opportunities.

We are pleased to announce a new project of timely seminars, organized in partnership with interested school library districts and associations. These innovative seminars will explore universal themes relevant to school library practice and at the same time be organized around local needs and talents. The participants will help us build resources to support CSL professional learning modules and webinars available to all on our website. We expect to hold at least one regional seminar every year, probably in May or June.

The first CSL signature seminar will take place on Saturday June 10, 2017, and is presented in partnership with the Durham District School Board in Ontario. Stay tuned for more information, and save the date!
The generosity of supporters from across the country has covered the legal and technical costs of incorporation and enabled us to present a vibrant web presence for Leading Learning in both official languages.

We are off to an excellent start. With no membership fees, we rely on your generosity to sustain and grow our projects. Please consider making a donation. Click here for more information.
