WCC expresses solidarity with Caribbean churches as volcano erupts
World Council of Churches acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca sent a prayerful letter to churches in the Caribbean as they face daily challenges from the continued eruption of La Soufriere volcano on the eastern Caribbean island of St Vincent.

Churches and moral discernment: A series of three webinars by WCC Faith and Order Commission
In preserving and restoring unity, churches are increasingly confronted with moral questions. The World Council of Churches Faith and Order Commission has studied this topic and recently presented a new study document called “Churches and Moral Discernment: Facilitating Dialogue to Build Koinonia.” In a series of three webinars, the commission will introduce the document and two other publications that assist in learning from and with each other about discerning ethical questions in the churches.

In a virtual meeting from 12-14 April, the Joint Working Group between the Roman Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches (WCC) shared prayers, made plans for joint publications, and planned the involvement of the Catholic Church in the WCC 11th Assembly in 2022.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee leadership convened on 13 April, focusing on preparing for the WCC executive committee meeting in May and the WCC central committee meeting in June, an out-of-ordinary meeting born out of a need for conducting necessary business in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel convened its Annual Meeting on 12-14 April, to receive updates about the reconfiguration of the WCC’s Jerusalem-based activities as well as to make plans to be able to safely send Ecumenical Accompaniers back to the region to continue providing protective international presence for vulnerable Palestinian communities and to monitor and report on incidents of concern.

The Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) General Secretariat held its annual meeting on 14 April with international and regional partner organizations and institutions online to discuss opinions and share knowledge about developing the role of the council and improve cooperation in future projects.

After releasing in 2020 the research paper Cooler Earth - Higher Benefits: Actions by those who care about children, climate and finance, the World Council of Churches (WCC) is launching a tool to be used online or in print, encouraging young people to promote financial choices in response to the climate crisis.

Executive Committee meeting (online)
Dates : 17 May 2021 - 20 May 2021 The 25-person Executive Committee is the WCC governing body, with members from churches in every region, meeting twice a year to monitor ongoing work, supervise the budget and deal with policy matters referred to it by the WCC Central Committee.

Dates : 23 June 2021 - 29 June 2021 The Central Committee serves as the chief governing body of the WCC until the next assembly, meeting every 2 years. It is responsible for carrying out the policies adopted by the Assembly, reviewing and supervising WCC programmes and the budget of the Council.

Communication for Social Justice in a Digital Age
Dates : 13 September 2021 - 15 September 2021 This symposium will focus on the impact of digital transformation on communities and societies, and the actions needed to secure a just and inclusive digital future. Bringing together research, experiences from different regions and communities, expert input, and ethical and theological reflection, it will identify opportunities for action as a contribution to the 11th assembly of the World Council of Churches.
