Faculty & Staff Appreciation Breakfast

On January 25, 2016, staff and faculty were recognized for the work and dedication they provide to the university. Over 40 staff and faculty members were acknowledged for their years of service to the university. This year, five employees received their 20-year service pin (see photo below). Congratulations and thank you for all of your hard work!

Two faculty members also received special recognition. Associate Professor Enid Ryce was recognized as a nominee for The Wang Family Excellence Award. Professor Yoshiko Saito-Abbott was recognized as a nominee for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) U.S. Professor of the Year Award. We are excited to celebrate these well-deserved nominations.

Many thanks to all who helped organize the resources and make this recognition possible. We hope to continue this event annually to acknowledge the contributions that our staff and faculty provide to our university and our students.
Congratulations to CSUMB's All-Star Awards Nominees!

The 2016 CSU Human Resources All-Star Awards honors individuals and teams within the California State University community who have provided outstanding service, demonstrated significant program improvement, and/or worked in a collaborative manner to solve problems and improve processes. Campuses submitted nominees through a campus-determined process and a system-wide committee selected the honorees. The awards will be presented during the inaugural All-Star Awards Dinner held in honor of this year’s recipients and nominees.

Our campus has nominated one team and one individual for this award:

Yvonne Chambers for her work in the areas of recruitment and New Employee Orientation. We are excited about this opportunity to recognize the excellent work of our colleagues and look forward to being inspired by their accomplishments. 

University Personnel Receives HR Innovation Award

The Chancellor's Office solicited proposals from the 23 CSU campuses for the development and implementation of innovative human resources practices and processes. The proposals were reviewed and scored based on criteria for innovation, positive impacts, and scalability at other campuses. We are proud to announce that University Personnel's proposal, "Standardized Pre-Employment Computer Skills Testing", was approved and will be funded by the Chancellor's Office. These funds will allow us to pilot pre-employment testing for job applicants in the upcoming months and hopefully provide a model for other campuses to follow.

Sustaining a Positive Work Environment

It is with great pleasure that we announce the launch of the CSU Workplace Environment Resources Website. The Workplace Environment Resources Website addresses the issue of abusive conduct (or "bullying") and includes “best practices” from CSU campuses, other higher education institutions, and noted experts in the field.  The website offers resources such as articles, presentations, and links to other websites to help support CSU employees who may be experiencing these types of issues. The Workplace Environment Resources Website will also provide examples and inspiration as CSU campuses strive to address this important issue within their workplace environments.
