Of the winning painting Just dreaming, Malcolm said: "It doesn’t have to be big to be beautiful. This is a powerful small painting – simple, eye-catching, with lovely subtle colour shifts."

Of the first runner-up Rainy Saturday at Lorne, he said: "Brilliant use of the medium to describe the subject matter. The loose, broad treatment evokes the mood perfectly - rainy, grey, and everything a bit out of focus."

Of the second runner-up, Shopping day, Silk Road, he said: "Many artists shy away from painting figures –and so they should! But not Barbara. She has captured the attitude of the woman simply but eloquently. A lesson in body language."
