2020 MicroClinic Initiative Newsletter

July 2016

Together, we can clothe every baby and make pregnancy safe for all moms.

Crazy Dog T-shirts makes huge contribution to 2020 MicroClinic

Local Rochester t-shirt company, Crazy Dog T-shirts, donated 3,500 new t-shirts to 2020 MicroClinic Initiative after learning about how t-shirts help our program in Kenya. Their generous donation will clothe thousands of babies, as well as facilitate a safe pregnancy and childbirth for their mothers. Thank you Bill and Brie Kingston, owners of Crazy Dog, as well as Pete Borrelli and Debbie Zarkowsky for making this incredible donation possible!

From the Crazy Dog team: "When 2020 MicroClinic Initiative approached us with the opportunity for a collaboration we couldn't say yes fast enough! We were really amazed to hear about these incredible folks finding innovative ways to give our shirts a second life, and make the world a better place in the process. Nothing makes this Crazy Dog's tail wag more than knowing our shirts are going to a great cause!"

Thank you Pete, Bill, and Brie!

2020 MicroClinic conducts first trial of maternal health card game

Thank you to all who joined us for the first trial of our maternal health card game! We were grateful to share our game with such a special group of people, whose enthusiasm and thoughtful ideas offered us new insight and inspiration. We will be hosting another game night in Los Angeles next week to test new additions and alterations to the game. Contact if you are in Los Angeles and interested in attending!

Meet our Program Coordinator in Kenya, Laureen Mumia

Before joining 2020 MicroClinic Initiative in 2016, Laureen studied business management and information technology at Marist International University in Nairobi, Kenya. Laureen's duties and efforts go far beyond her title at 2020 MicroClinic Initiative. She goes above and beyond to make our work in Kenya possible, and we are so grateful to her.

Laureen is thankful for the opportunity to be part of an initiative that impacts the lives of mothers, children, and local Kenyan communities. Her own life experiences have left her yearning to learn new ways to improve her skills and invest in both herself and others.
Los Angeles volunteers continue to sort thousands of donations

Once again our dedicated Los Angeles volunteers helped us sort and pack thousands of t-shirts and baby clothes last week! We couldn't prepare all these generous donations for Kenya without you. Thank you Luis, Veronique, Debbie, Chris, and Melissa for your enthusiasm, smiling faces, and hard work!
Debbie and Chris: Your laughter and generous spirits inspire us!
Veronique and Luis: Your dedication and continued support means the world to us. We're so grateful to know you!
Sheridan Brothers Moving contribute storage for donations to clothe thousands of babies in Kenya

Jennifer Sheridan and her team at Sheridan Brothers Moving & Storage in Rochester, NY first heard about our work a few months ago when our founder, Dr. Moka Lantum, went looking for space to store our rapidly growing number of t-shirts and baby clothes. As our organization grows, our needs grow, and Sheridan Brothers Moving graciously met those needs when they learned about our program. Like so many of our supporters, they were moved by the opportunity to clothe newborn babies and help make pregnancy safe for mothers in rural Kenya. Their timing couldn't have been better because we already require storage for around 20,000 items of clothing in Rochester alone. Not only have they given us free storage space, they have also helped us pack and transport donations to send to Kenya. Thank you from all of us at 2020 MicroClinic Initiative for your incredible generosity!
