Clothing Every Newborn Baby + Providing Access to a Safe Delivery

Karibu or Welcome

Welcome to the first edition of the 2016 Operation Karibu Newsletter! Thank you for supporting us and being a part of the amazing community that works so hard to provide a safe delivery to the most vulnerable women in Kenya. This year we will bring you exciting news about our expansion to 6 new clinics where Operation Karibu will ensure safe deliveries for thousands of new babies and their mothers.
The Fellowship of the King makes a huge impact in Kenya

The Fellowship of the King in Oak Glen, CA dedicated their quarterly service project to Operation Karibu this year, spending the last few months of 2015 fundraising and hosting two baby showers for Operation Karibu. They collected 2,318 items of clothing and $1,370 to support our program. This incredible contribution will provide clothes and a safe delivery for at least 800 babies. This is truly amazing! We are so honored the fellowship chose to support us. Thank you!
Richard and Ruthie Chinnock connected the Fellowship of the King with 2020 MicroClinic Initiative to do a service project for Operation Karibu.
Global Health Residency Training in Kenya

We are preparing to expand our global health program, which brings U.S. medical residents to Kenya for a month-long rotation. Our program operates in the Ng'enda Health Center and Thika District Hospital, both in Kiambu County. The exchange of knowledge integral to this experience benefits not only the medically underserved families of the region, but also the U.S. doctors themselves, who return from Kenya with invaluable clinical insights and new cultural understanding. Both U.S. residents and Kenyan healthcare workers have expressed enormous gratitude for these rotations, and we look forward to running the program year-round.

The Year Ahead

In 2016, we will be expanding Operation Karibu to 6 new facilities in rural Kenya giving thousands of additional women access to a safe delivery. We will be opening at least one new production center in Kenya where our local volunteers will continue to produce onesies, hats, and socks out of donated t-shirts. Last year, we received thousands of in-kind donations that will allow us to clothe thousands of babies and provide their mothers with a safe delivery!

We are so grateful and proud of our dedicated community. Your donations and support are allowing us to make this expansion and reach more women this year. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We will work hard in 2016 to bring you more pictures and stories from Kenya to show you the incredible impact your donations are making.
