2020 MicroClinic Initiative Newsletter

November 2016

Together, we can clothe every baby and make pregnancy safe for all moms.

Happy Thanksgiving
and thank you from all of us at 2020 MicroClinic Initiative

We have so much for which to be grateful this Thanksgiving. Thanks to you, this year we were able to expand our award-winning Operation Karibu program to reach thousands of the most vulnerable women in Kenya. We collected over 30,000 items of clothing to keep newborns warm and offer their mothers the health care they need. The number of mothers joining our program continues to grow as news of Operation Karibu spreads. By the end of the year, Operation Karibu will have delivered more than 5,000 healthy babies over three Kenyan counties. We have you to thank for all of this!

Join us in bringing our maternal health card game to 100 facilities

Perhaps the most exciting accomplishment this year has been the development of 2020 MicroClinic's innovative maternal health card game, designed to provide a fun and effective educational program for Operation Karibu mothers.

The birth of this game marks an exciting turning point on the journey to make a lasting impact on maternal health in Kenya. Our game offers mothers critical, life-saving information and instills in them the importance of seeking health care before, during, and after childbirth. It engages health care workers and mothers for an hour-long conversation that contains the most important information these women will receive as they prepare for birth and motherhood. This knowledge not only saves lives, it empowers mothers to make sustainable change in their families and communities.

Now more health care workers are asking for the game! Our goal is to bring the game to 100 health care centers in 2017, allowing us to serve an estimated 60,000 families, but we need your help. Sponsor a game’s production, distribution, and training for $55, and we’ll send it to a new facility where your generosity will not only save lives, but offer the knowledge necessary to change lives.

The first 100 game sponsors will receive a certificate of sponsorship, and each health care center will receive a card game with the sponsor’s name. If you’re unable to sponsor a game at this time, as always, any donation makes a difference to our program. Thank you for your generous support!

Our Board of Directors will match your donations before the end of the year

If you contribute to our worthy cause before the year’s end, our board members will match your donation up to $10,000, making it worth twice as much. With your generosity and the help of the board, we can raise $20,000 before the end of the year!
Glendale Quilt Guild makes blankets for Operation Karibu

When our friend and supporter, Tina, recruited her quilting group in Glendale, CA to make baby blankets for Operation Karibu, we were thrilled because our program is always in need of blankets. Blankets are critical to our program and to the life of a newborn baby to help prevent hypothermia. The Glendale Quilt Guild made 115 beautiful blankets for our Operation Karibu babies! That's 115 warm newborns and 115 mothers with the quality health care they need. Thank you Tina and the Glendale Quilt Guild for your time and generosity!

Donor of the Month: Ellen Coey Paz

This month we would like to recognize our friend Ellen as an outstanding supporter of our organization. As a recurring monthly donor, Ellen helps ensure a mother gains access to the health care she needs every month. She is both a monetary and t-shirt donor, providing for all aspects of our Operation Karibu program. It's donors like Ellen that truly make our work possible and make a difference in the lives of mothers and their families in Kenya. Thank you Ellen!

"The fact that donating a t-shirt could save babies' lives and provide a much needed skill to women in Kenya was such a simple yet brilliant idea. I had no idea that babies were dying of hypothermia in Kenya and that donating t- shirts could help eliminate that. My modest monthly donation helps provide mothers' birth preparation, care training and emergency transportation, and donating t-shirts when I can helps keep babies warm and Kenyan mothers thankful. Thank you 2020 MicroClinic for all of your good works!"
