ANNOUNCEMENTS

Bishop Eaton Issues Statement on Gun Violence
Dear Church,
As a nation we have lived through a very difficult two weeks following the mass shootings in Atlanta on March 16 and again in Boulder, Colo., on March 22. The shooting in Colorado was only the most recent of 104 mass shootings already in 2021. Colorado has a painful history of mass shootings. Since 1993 the deadliest incidents have been the 1999 Columbine High School massacre, the mass shooting in a movie theater in Aurora and now the 10 lives taken, including the life of a responding police officer, at a supermarket in Boulder.

Together with God, we grieve with the families and communities impacted by gun violence — especially in communities where it is an everyday occurrence. These shootings are not isolated but rather a pattern of the gun violence crisis in the United States. The numbers of victims tell only a part of the pain — the trauma caused by gun violence ripples across family members, friends, neighborhoods, communities and this country.

As we near the Sunday of the Passion, we enter into the suffering of Christ and into solidarity with the sufferings of the world. As we look to the healing power of the cross, we celebrate the gift of peace through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As followers of Jesus, we are empowered to take up the challenge to prevent violence and grapple with the complex causes that make violence so pervasive.

The ELCA is a church in society striving for peace in all the world. Let us join with others in calling for greater gun safety, including preventing easy access to assault-style weapons and strengthening our federal system of background checks for all gun sales. We call for support and protection for those living out their vocations to protect and defend society, enforce the law and work toward restorative justice. We pray for rostered ministers who provide support and counseling services to those affected by gun-violence-related crimes even as we pray for the perpetrators of violent acts. We call upon congregations to hold safe space for those dealing with the fears and threats related to violence in all its manifestations.

In Christ,

The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton
Presiding Bishop
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

I am also the Facility Operations Advisor for the Beta Nu Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega at USU.  We are currently looking for a house director for next year (Fall and Spring) and the posting is listed below. This is the perfect part time job for a person attending graduate school, a young married couple, or a retired person, who is willing to live on campus in an apartment located within the house who will live with 12-25 housed chapter members.  The actual work week consists of approximately 10 hours of work.  The job posting for House Director for Alpha Chi Omega Sorority may be viewed here: https://www.indeed.com/job/pearl-stone-partners-house-director-23a506edcc3caaf1. all interested candidates can apply via Indeed or email contactus@pearlstonepartners.org with a copy of their resume.

Full Job Description
New and Improved Blessing Box
We have installed a new Blessing Box in the front of the church (in the same place as the old one). It is seeing a lot of use these days. We would like to keep it replenished for any who need assistance. Keep in mind that it is not a working refrigerator so if you'd like to help, nonperishable foods and supplies are still best!
UPCOMING EVENTS
Highway Clean-up
As most of you all know, PoP currently sponsors a 2 mile stretch of Highway 30 for roadside clean-up. Last year, the PoP clean-up crew picked up so much trash, we filled over 25 humongous trash bags. Anyway, it’s time to hit it again. So, on May 16th, after services, if you are willing and able, we’d like to get a crew out there again. Bring your gloves and walking shoes. Water, trash bags and safety vests will be provided. I’ll need a commitment from at least 8 folks to do this efficiently and safely. Please give me a call, text or email if you can help out. Jon Grussendorf @ 801-673-6884 or jongrussendorf@aol.com.

Lutheran Advocacy Digital Summit (5/13)
If you are interested, the RMS will be holding a digital advocacy seminar.

Join online with advocates and community leaders in learning, listening and taking action. Discover how you as a person of faith can be mobilized for prophetic public policy advocacy, get the latest updates on our work together at the Colorado State Capitol, and be at the forefront of building relationships with your elected officials.

Even if you're new to advocacy, even if policy sounds wonky, even if you're a little Zoomed out (and aren't we all), we want you to join us! The event will include an issues briefing, remarks from Bishop Jim Gonia and a state legislator, and advocacy actions you can take to connect with your representatives.

When: Thursday, May 13, 2021, 6:30 - 8 p.m. MDT
Where: Zoom & Facebook Live

Giving During COVID-19
We are truly thankful for your continued support of Prince of Peace during this challenging time. Here are a few ways to make a contribution while social distancing:

1) Write a check and mail it to the church.
2) Use your bank’s bill pay option and they will mail a check to the church.
3) At this time, the only way to do a direct deposit to the church account is to sign up for
Simply Giving through the company Vanco. Prince of Peace has been working with this
company for quite awhile with no problems. They do charge a percentage fee to the church for this service. There is a form you need to fill out; and the Financial Secretary can set it up. The form asks for name, address, Amount and frequency of contribution and your bank account info.(I will try and attach a pdf of the form for viewing. To protect your personal information, please do not email the form to me or the church).
4) FYI: For the safety of the counters:
A) If you are mailing a contribution, please only use water or tape for sealing the
envelope or use a self‐sealing envelope.
B) For right now, please no cash.

5) If you need to talk to me my phone numbers are in the directory.

Please Stay Safe!
In the Peace of Christ,

Gini Anderson
Financial Secretary
