Talent directory success as training delivered

One of our early focus areas was to get the Talent Directory up and running. Designed to help OpenStreetMap enthusiasts who are based in the UK find paid or volunteer work, the programme continues to go from strength to strength.

With interest sparked from previous OSM events, Open Data Manchester were looking to lay on some OpenStreetMap training. Long term OpenStreetMapper and Wikipedian Andy Mabbett jumped at the opportunity in what is a win-win-win for Andy, for Open Data Manchester and for us (more OSMers to help keep the Manchester map up to date).

Interested in joining our Talent Directory? Jump right in as next week we are hoping to announce an exciting project with Transport for London related to their Cycle Infrastructure Database.

Working with National Trust to map paths

In mid-January we were approached by the National Trust in regards to the Geospatial Commission funding competition. With health and well-being forming part of their new strategy, the National Trust were struggling to find a dataset showing all paths. Whilst many options exist, none have universal coverage.

Partnering with 1Spatial for their GIS technical expertise and University of Southampton for their knowledge on how to engage a crowd, the project aims to develop a simple tool to map paths stripping out the complexity seen in fully fledged map editors.

We were pleased to be able to provide a letter of support, and should the funding bid be successful, we will participate in several workshops throughout the project. National Trust are keen to get their own paths added to OpenStreetMap whatever the outcome
